На днях захотелось перерисовать одну из иллюстраций Чарушина. В детстве обожала его книги 🌿🐺🌰
Female Rage for Consumption.
Female rage got media traffic and then got aestheticised.
It ends up portraying that women are always palatable, always consumable. Objects to be consumed.
It makes them feel like their anger has to sound righteous or justified to be taken seriously. It ends up portraying that even righteous, justified anger is just a minor infraction. That even anger has to be pretty, controlled, righteous enough to be taken seriously. It gives everything the same level of reaction, which means nothing registers as serious anymore. Female rage is now a synonym for an inconvenience.
Female rage is righteous or self-righteous; it's a response to an injustice or a betrayal. It's a display of emotion that isn't just sitting there and accepting it like women are taught to accept many things. It signifies a limit and that there are consequences to crossing that limit. It can be destructive, it's ugly and raw, and not a performance. It's not something good, and it's not something romanticised. It is something that people feel; it's something a woman feels, it could be protective, it could be maternal, or it could be betrayal and vengeance. It's a precursor to action. It's not something women want to feel. It's not something that they always feel. It takes a lot to cross the threshold for that kind of emotion, and it's not smiley, and it's not calm. And it's not perfect. It's anger past the limit that anger can survive in a bottle.
But women also feel anger and annoyance, and those should be taken seriously too, depending on the context. Some anger isn't justified; some anger is justified. But women are allowed to feel anger without performing that. Ordinary anger. Annoyance. Frustration. Without it needing to be righteous or romanticised or justified to a standard that men's anger never has to meet. Not everything has to be a righteous, romanticised, justified female rage type of anger.
