hi kim!! may i ask for a director's commentary on ur fic 70%, 100% interesting please? (also i've just noticed but all ur fics have such great titles how do u do it OTL) 💕💪✨
@gulabijamuns Andy!!!! *tackle hugs* Hello!!!!! <3
Okay, so 70% water, 100% interesting is a story born from the word plus ship meme.
A context: as a general rule, I try to challenge myself when writing a story for these prompts, like, i try to think outside the box and take the word to a direction that one doesn’t immediately associate to the given word. Basically, i try to play with it. The thing is, water is quite a universal and so obvious (?), like you know what I mean??? (also full disclosure: it didn’t necessarily helped that I was in a bit of a funk, during those times, but anyway) there are so many directions I could take it, but I keep thinking that its too obvious and expected. So instead of having a solid idea, a solid ‘plot’ that I want to do, I just got overwhelmed, and I wasn’t completely satisfied with what I’m trying to come up with. So i left it for a while, tried to look for prompts that could inspire me, to no avail. So the next best thing that to do is mindlessly scroll through tumblr.
Which proved to be the right decision since this post reappeared in my dash that exact time (its a goldmine, really. a true heaven sent). And, its so perfect for Kuroo. Like. It screams Kuroo. It’s something that the hot nerdy dork would say to pick an unsuspecting person up (read: Daichi).
So from there, I built my ‘plot’ around the premise of bad pick-up line. And since I was also in an IwaKita phase during that time, I was like, why not include more characters in college au kind of setting. A need for bartender Daichi, and Kuroo delivering this line.
In the first draft, there’s actually more of Kuroo and Oikawa talking in the beginning, because the real background of this is Kuroo’s been actually eyeing Daichi for a while, but is too chicken to approach him. And Oikawa, being very observant, well, noticed and he was like egging Kuroo to make a move. But since Kuroo is denying that he’s got the hots for the bartender, it pushed Oikawa to play a game, which, full disclosure again: he did rig. :D
I actually didn’t finish this piece in one sitting, and i only got a third of it written initially. I’m glad the time I took away from writing it, gave me the rest of 30% part, and it’s actually my next favorite part after the pick-up line. And yeah, after i got that part written down, I just let it flow (see what I did there hahaha) and it went to a direction I’m satisfied with so I kept it, and yeah.
Oh my, Andy, thank you! But yours are great!!! I love the originality and the poetic feel about it, very much like your writing! <3
Although, I honestly don’t know??? I mean, half of my works are just named after song lyrics, if not the actual song titles. some play on quotes, and memes, because I do get inspired by those. In general, I just play with words, the plot and try to connect them, in the hopes that it actually make sense??? And funny you say this, because I’m not really satisfied with the title of this particular story because for me, it’s really obvious? but its the catchiest one I had, that i can come up with at that moment, and i was just like, oh well, whatever, i just want to post this so i can go to sleep, but I gradually warmed up to it. I just… yeah. it makes me happy that you like my titles hahaha <3
Anyway, I’m sorry if I rambled hahaha, but thank you so much for sending one in! :D <3<3<3
