Gulpener Ijsbock (Picked up at Sterk in Amsterdam). A 3 of 4. At just over 10%, this is a heavyweight, and the freezing technique really concentrates the flavor quite a bit, too -- lots of roast and toffee notes, and the body is a bit syrupy and sweet. Some light bitterness (and the booze) helps cut through it all in the finish.

Gulpener Ur-Hop IPA (Picked up at Ekoplaza Foodmarqt in Amsterdam). A 2 of 4. Very mild for an IPA in terms of body bitterness, but there’s a decent amount of grassy and herbal hop notes in the nose. Light to medium body and a nice bit of grain sweetness -- balanced and drinkable but much more a pale ale, even by European standards.
