LEMME COME AGAIN
Skream @ Leoncavallo Milan
It's been a great dubstep weekend here in Milan.
Friday night italian heavyweights Aucan hit us with an impressive live show at Cox18 and last night Skream was in town on a mission to bring (alternative club) Leoncavallo to it's knees.
Things have changed a lot in the last year here in Milan; since Benga made 1300 fans rave to his intoxicating beats italian promoters have realized that there's a real market for dubstep djs. The quality of the local djs is going up as a consequence and warming up acts Gunfinga, Mother Inc, Tommy Tumble & Dj Kam absolutely murdered the show with heavy dub & reggae sounds and some of the heaviest brostep known to mankind.
By the time Skream and "hype-man" SP:MC hit the stage the capacity crowd was already pretty wild, with everything but the walls of the ex industrial building jumping up and down and sweating.
His set started of with "Smack Your Bitch Up" by best mate and fellow-Magnetic-Man Benga and things just got dirtier and dirtier; big highlights were definitely Joker's "Here Come The Light" and Caspa's rework of Buraka Som Sistema's "Hangover".
Skream set is not only great to dance to, but it's also gave us a little insight of where dubstep is at the moment. This is what we learnt:
1- Dubstep is all about being original and mixing it up. Skream played a lot of different rhythms and styles and kept his set very fresh throughout the show. Old-school dubstep, brostep, garage.... they were all played!
2- Dubstep is a very evolved beast at the moment; it seems to pay-off just to keep an open mind and enjoy what's good without to many preconceptions.
3- Dubstep is international. Some very good stuff is going to be coming out of Europe in the near future; everyone is embracing it.
4- Whenever you happen to go and see Skream.... bring some comfy shoes!
