Got very little done today, but here is my redrawing of one of my favorite screencaps in the show! Maybe it’s me projecting, but I always found it incredibly beautiful that Viktor arrived at Hasetsu during a late snow in April. I’ve always had a seasonal mood disorder, and I interpret the scene of Yuuri waking up late to a large snowfall very late into Spring to be a reference to his depressive episode lasting longer than usual. That is, right before Viktor shows up and gets him to take better care of himself and build his confidence

Or, a look back at Viktor, his self-perception, and love throughout the years.

Thanks for the ask! It's really hard to choose just one haha, but these are some fics which were completed this year that I really loved reading. All are Viktuuri-based and for Yuri!!! On Ice.

A Minor Media Miscommunication by labellelunaclaire (~5k words)

Is a Twitter fic set in the canon universe, which I am sure must have taken forever to code. It mimics the frustrations of Twitter controversies in such a funny and unserious way, and keeps everyone perfectly in character. Phichit is mostly the main character, but all the OC Twitter users make up most of the fic and are equally as hilarious.

Broken Bones and Broken Hearts Are Set the Same by Bdol (@makkasbuns) (~200k words)

Is a very thoroughly developed canon-divergence fic exploring what would have happened if Lilia took over Yuuri's coaching instead of Viktor. Beautiful character development as Yuuri learns how to be a better figure skater through ballet, as well as learning how to be a coach. I especially adore the parallels between the ballet pieces Yuuri skates to and his own perception of himself. I love the different types of relationships explored within the story; it gives equal importance to Yuuri's friendships, mentorships, family, and romantic relationships. Viktor and Yuuri's is slow to start and slightly frustrating at the beginning, but very charming. 💗

Fool's Gold by @neutronstarchild (~44k words)

Is a post-canon fic with switching POV's exploring the Russian Federation's overscoring in competitions and bribed judges. It was nice to see perspectives from so many characters, as the skating world is so small that the controversy ends up affecting all of them. It's tense as the main 3 characters are pitted against each other (Yuri P., Yuuri K., and Viktor), but explores them maintaining their relationships despite that. I think Yuri's reactions to being harassed by the media are very in line with what it must be like being such a young skater and facing so much public backlash, even when he's not at fault. I am also a secret JJ fan, so I adored the exploration into his anxieties and relationships as another relatively young skater.

It is also accompanied by many beautiful artworks!

Got an email notifying me of a very nice comment on my fic, clicked it to go to respond and found it had been taken down. Googled the username just to find out its an AI bot pretending to be a nerdy girl. what the fuck 😭

Listening to sporadic episodes of Welcome to Nightvale lately and wondering how I managed to forget such a large chunk of the series. First off, I was about 14 years old when I first listened to it. Secondly, I just remembered that I would only play it during the instances where I would get a long lasting migraine and lay in bed in pain before eventually drifting off to sleep. Now I am not quite sure how much of it I got through, missed, or dreamt up, but I think that just adds to the experience

Sometimes I see reading comprehension quizzes at the end of reels and I think of how funny it'd be to put one at the end of a fanfic but I wonder if it'd sound too presumptuous to ask yall to actively find meaning in my work
