thinking abt a gerard way summerween fic….
summerween!gerard who keeps volunteering for night patrols the second he realizes how easily you scare. who walks beside you with this stupid flashlight held under his chin, making his voice lower whenever he tells the ghost story again. changing details every single time just to see which version gets to you most.
summerween!gerard who notices you start checking over your shoulder even during the daytime. who pretends not to notice the way you move closer to him near the cabins once the sun starts going down. he acts smug about it too, cigarette tucked into the corner of his mouth while he grins at you through all that dark hair sticking to his face from the humidity.
summerween!gerard who keeps scratching against your cabin window at night knowing damn well it scares you. who nearly laughs himself sick the first time you actually scream. not mean about it, though. almost fond. like he likes being the reason your heart starts racing.
summerween!gerard who keeps saying the lake looks different at night. blacker. deeper. who swears he saw somebody standing near the dock last summer even though he immediately starts laughing after he says it. “i’m serious,” he keeps insisting while you glare at him. “you should’ve seen it.”
summerween!gerard who gets this look on his face whenever the campfire stories start. elbows on his knees, lighter clicking open and closed in his hands while the little kids stare at him like he personally met the ghost. dragging his words out on purpose whenever he gets to the drowning part.
summerween!gerard who starts pushing it further once he realizes fear makes you grab onto him without thinking. your wrist around his arm. fingers in the back of his hoodie. the way your voice changes when you tell him to stop even though you don’t fully move away from him either.
summerween!gerard who finally gets you alone near the lake after lights out because he wants one last reaction out of you before bed. branches cracking under your shoes, flashlight beam shaking everywhere except where it’s supposed to. him walking ahead pretending he knows exactly where he’s going.
summerween!gerard who throws a rock into the lake just to hear you gasp. who starts laughing until another splash answers from farther out in the water.
summerween!gerard who goes completely still after that.
summerween!gerard who suddenly keeps very close to you on the walk back. hand pressed between your shoulder blades every time you hear something in the trees. talking way more than usual because silence suddenly feels wrong to him too.
summerween!gerard who still tries acting sarcastic after the lights in the mess hall start flickering on their own. “wow,” he mutters, voice thinner than before. “camp really committed to the bit this year.”
summerween!gerard who stops laughing first.
