I am very happy with my #marchwrapup stack! Most of the volume comes from the 24 in 48 Social Distancing Readathon, iin my house also known as the Mom Goes Crazy Because Her Every Waking Thought For A Week Has Been About COVID-19 or COVID-homeschooling, Now Please Everyone Go Away And Be Quiet So I Can Do Nothing But Read For Two Days Readathon. . . Let’s stick with the first name. It’s both shorter and catchier. . . Anyway, there is a lot of #koreanmarch in this stack, plus a lot of blasting through the stack of what I have out from the library. Like for most of you, my local branch is closed, and I am not actually sure if I should be dropping these off as I finish them? Or wait until they open again? I have no idea. I also read three books of poetry last month, which I am VERY happy about, plus finished reading Sabriel to the kids for bedtime story, and read Spirit Animals at the insistence of my youngest (meh, but I can see why he was excited about it.) . . . My favorites this month: BABY X by Rebecca Ann Smith UNCOMFORTABLY HAPPY by Yeon-Sik Hong RED, WHITE, AND ROYAL BLUE by Casey McQuiston . . Hey, it’s some happy #bookmail! . . Okay, storytime: This book was the beginning of my doom this week. The author posted on twitter that her press has pulled out of AWP and was offering a 40% discount on “my gorgeous queer disabled ecopoetic freaky sturgeon dinosaur survivor” Obviously, I was not going to be able to pass that up. But this was just the first drop from the gathering storm that was the AWP mess and its resultant deluge: tons and tons of publishers offering their conference discounts online either because they were also pilling out of AWP, or to make their books available to those who could not be there. . . Now, I was never going to AWP, because money, buy I love books and I love a bandwagon and I love coupon codes, so this spelled my doom. Over the next 24 hours I ordered I don’t even know how many books from at least six presses, a few of whom are new to me. Right now I am avoiding looking at my credit card balance but eagerly awaiting the rain of new books coming my way. . .
