i honestly don’t know that much about it. i didn’t even know the specifics of why we were actually banned until years and years later, and even then it’s sort of hazy because nobody ever really talks about anything that happened before or immediately after the war. there’s also the fact that my family tree (on both sides) is an amazonian mess (mostly from polygyny), so it was so long ago that there was never anyone who was alive to remember. my mother’s grandmother was the youngest wife, and i think she was in her mid-teens or something at the time. anything beyond her is just left to our imagination, because there are no records to reference. i’m not even sure why my family had control over such a large piece of land to begin with--whether this is something that was recent at the time, or was historical.
but i do suspect that it might have been given to my great-grandfather in exchange for...something under the auspices of the british. it would explain why he had so many enemies.
