-learning to fly- by SpookyChan 2006. Pencil on paper & photoshop. Guy Salvatore falling through the sky. Inspired by my favorite Pink Floyd song, "Learning to Fly." In particular, I still love my pencil work in this. It has a few problems, but that weird expressive pencil is still so fascinating to me. I wish I still drew like that. So I reread The God Machine last night and I noticed something that I -can't believe- I didn't notice before. Andrew's bi right? And he loves Guy doesn't he? I personally think that Andrew should be with that Milo kid from the flashback rather than Mortia.. Anyway, rereading it also reminded me how much i love The God Machine so I wanted to say it's fantastic and I love you

I LOVE YOU. 

You’re the first to say this (As far as I can remember). I contemplatedif this was a spoiler or not… but as you can tell, it’s not a very “deep” secret.

I won’t go further into to this because we see the nature of Andrew and Guy’s relationship unfold through the course of the story. We’re talking friendship, complications of “unrequited love,” young people’s struggle with their sexuality, and so on. (-and just why is Andrew with Mortia…)

Side note: Milo is on the fence with sexuality and very prudish/secretive (which there is nothing wrong with that, especially at his age). Milo is just that very nerdy kid who decided to get involved with the goth kids and is still learning to “roll” with his friends’ overt outward natures. ——Which, by the by, we will see him again in volume 2, as part of Andrew & Guy’s band, “The Batfinks.”

At any rate- I really wanted to base my characters in reality when it came to psychological issues, and actual things that teens go through with sexuality and friendships. Andrew, despite his outward appearance has more going on underneath. Example- page 62 has a very subtle hint in the first panel on how Andrew regards his life vs. how Guy regards his own. Stuff like that…

 Anyhoo!

The God Machine - book-chap. 2 by =SpookyChan

Circa 2007-08.

Fun fact- this was originally intended as an actual cover of "issue 2" of TGM. But as soon as it was decided that the series would go to graphic novel format after issues with my hands started up this turned into a chapter break!

I have to admit, it would have been nice to see that issue come to the shelves at comic shops with this cover.

This page from volume 1 [chapter 1] of THE GOD MACHINE came to mind last night.  There is something to this dialog that no one has brought up yet... hmmm~
