“Because darkness falls to light,” the Darkling says with an odd sort of humor lacing his voice. “Like something out of a children’s story isn’t it? I didn’t much care for stories in the past. But they have a way of wanting to repeat themselves. They want to be told, and they want to be told in a certain way, even if there are variations.”
