are you okay bro
i am more than okay. i am a writer
I have a question about the em-dash.
So normally when I'm writing in Word, I use the hyphen key like this:
He looked - eyes flashing up at her - and raised his bow to fire.
And in Word, that automatically lengthens the hyphen and makes the space between the hyphen and the words smaller.
I was under the impression that this was actually an em-dash. But I've been told by a member of my writer's group that I should use the em-dash instead of hyphenating the clauses.
I am very confused. Do you have insight on what is/isn't a real em-dash?
no

Nice work on cutting down your story! How much of that was cutting out whole scenes, and how much was changing specific paragraphs and lines? Did you have to change any plot for it?
it went something like this
Sometimes I find your posts so funny I read them out loud to my parents at dinner
my new goal in life is to write posts so good that every single one of them is read to your parents at dinner
how long is a good time to wait before going and editing your first draft after you finished it? i have many things i want to do to it but im not sure how long is enough time to get fresh eyes on stuff
i usually try to leave it a year but at the moment i'm trying to write and edit a whole novel in around 46 days so i hope it varies
