backstory: 

It’s one of those moments, one that you can’t forget. If someone were to be asked where they were when Obama won the election, or when Robin Williams passed – they’d more than likely be able to give every detail, down to what socks they had on that day. For Alice, however, she remembers every detail of where she was when the news stuck about the meteor. She was at the bar – yes, during the day, getting a drink and – well, she felt sick to her stomach. What’s goin’ to happen to her mom? Her friends? What about herself?

Then she was selected. No explanation, no arguments, she just was. What would they want with a crappy citizen like herself? All she does is drink. Get fucked up. That’s it. That’s her life.

She had no say in the manner, nor did her mother. Who would expect that? A 23 year old not being able to control their life? She does figure, however, that whatever she has to do could help. Tell her this a couple years ago, and she’d have said ‘fuck it, let the world burn’. But she’s grown. Well, kind of. So things are different. Can’t just throw in the towel yet.
