Hounds. Why would it always be hounds. The clamor of wolfish barks had long since become nuisanced custom to even the former consort, regularly catching strays and waifs along her quarters. It was a problematic situation, for whilst some thrall women happily treated them to cakes and crumbles, others shrieked at the sight of the fearsome creatures. Bestla left these thoughts behind, albeit warily, as she regarded the one before her, its coat appearing thick as the night, and just as black. An ominous color altogether.
Yet the widow stood regal, straightening back and standing tall with every seven feet and its two inches. Blues watched the animal, as chilled as dwarfish wine and the creeks from which she’d lived as a child. Her tone was leisurely casual, yet did not belie her reputation of merciless.
