The ace attorney trilogy is known for its availability. Throughout my time in this fandom, I've seen several screenshots with different UI, and that got me curious. Just how many versions/ports of AA are there? Welp, here's my deep dive onto the most obscure versions.
Firstly, I'd like to talk a little bit about my experience. I first played the Ace Attorney trilogy in January–February 2025, so last year, pretty recent. So you'd probably guess that I played the modern Steam version of the game, right?
Well no, not really.
Me and my brother have a 3DS, so that was the version I played. Therefore, it is the version I'm most attached to, regardless of how underrated it may be nowadays. I have created this blog around like, 5 days before finishing the 3rd game — and my old blog was inactive so I wasn't posting anything there for a while — so you won't find footage of my first trilogy play through on this blog, like I've done with the other games. Fortunately, I DID report my play through to my group of friends, so here's some pictures I took back then:
Another thing I like about Ace Attorney is that it's a simple game. I won't say easy, after all, it requires a lot of strategic thinking and, depending on the case, one wrong move could cost you your entire progress after your last save file (like the unlimited penalty moment). And everything must be carefully analyzed, as even the smallest of things can make a huge difference. No wonder Phoenix is known as the Turnabout Terror. So yeah, it's a pretty logical game where you must think through carefully before you act.
What I meant about it being simple was the fact that it's a point-and-click visual novel. It's heavy text based. You talk to people and show evidence to them. While there are moments that can get on your nerves, I don't think it's on the same level of difficulty as Dark Souls or as infuriating as LOL which can lead some people to break their whole room in rage. I don't like games like that, because I don't like making too much effort playing something (why I avoid extremely difficult games) and I don't like getting stressed, especially over a game. Not saying that can't happen with AA, but I'd say the probabilities of you throwing your chair out of the window in rage playing a game like that are infinitely lower.
But enough about me. Let's finally talk about other versions the trilogy is available in.
Firstly, we have he most well-known versions of the trilogy which I won't be talking about, such as the NDS, the original GBA version (which is japanese exclusive) and the modern version, which is avaliable on Steam, Nintendo Switch, XBOX One/PS4 and Android/iOS (but keep the latter in mind, we'll come back to it later.) I also won't be talking about the 3ds version which is the one that I played.
So the first of the more "niche" versions of Ace Attorney is the one released for the WiiWare, which you probably heard from already considering that Capcom has made some promotional art for it.
(god i really like these illustrations)
gameplay wise, it is pratically just an port from the DS version. At least it does have a pretty cool intro. There are several gameplays on YouTube, and from what I could notice, majority of the game uses a single screen, but areas like the main title for example use a dual screen just like the DS.

i also like how you need to swing the wii remote to present evidence, which rendered us these awesome images.
and that's pretty much all i have to say about the Wii version. Like I said, you can find several gameplays of this port on Youtube though generally it's pretty much the same thing as the DS version.
Now, remember when I told you to keep the ios versions of the trilogy in mind? Well, while the modern port for ios and android is the same as the steam version of the game, this isn't the first time ace attorney trilogy has shown up on mobile devices.
It was first released in 2012, and I've seen quite a bunch of screenshots from this version of the game.
read here and here
However, it is also knows for being... pretty bad. I haven't experienced this version and it is no longer avaliable on app store, but i've read reports that it is pretty buggy and that incorrect music will play from time to time and the the interface is ugly.
footage from here.
if you have played this version, i'd love to know your experiences with it, and if you are happy or not that this got replaced by the current modern version of the trilogy. If you search enough, you can also find some videos or playlists featuring entire gameplays of this version of the games.

now, would you believe me if I said there is an even older version for the iOS?
yup. around 2009-2010, another ace attorney port had been released exclusively for the iOS, this version maintaining the pixel art. As far as I know, only the first game is avaliable and that apparently there is a version for JFA and T&T too that was never released outside of Japan, but I couldn't really find evidence for that. But I did find a good amount of screenshots confirming the existence of this 2010 iOS exclusive version of the first game:
these ones i found in the wiki, more specifically the page that talks about iOS.
and these are from this reddit post
i have also managed to find four gameplays on youtube and these two articles annoucing the release of this version of the game, but that's about it.
Now, we're about to reach even deeper waters.
Still on the topic of cellphones, there are two more versions I wanna talk about. The first being the Nexon Mobile version, a bizarre korean port released in 2007 that seems to be partially-lost media, considering that the only video footage I found was a 1 hour gameplay of Rise From The Ashes. Oh yeah, this version is mentioned in the Wikipedia page for Ace Attorney when you look for the list of plataforms the game was released in.
Regarding voice clips, I've found two videos.
I have found this article talking about this version of the game, but it is entirely in korean so i had to use a translator to read it.
Additionally, the "Hold It!" page of the Ace Attorney wiki mentions this version.
This other article (also in korean, obviously) also mentions this version of the game. I mostly found these links in this talk page in the AA wiki. Two of the links I found there seem to be broken, though.
The WIPI plataform that seemed to allow these applications to run on mobile phones was mostly based on Java. Why am I mentioning this? Because the next obscure mobile port is for Java phone/J2ME. This version is also partially lost, but unlike the korean version, this seems to be a bit more well known due to its avaliability in english. Honestly, while searching for this version of the game on Youtube, I found alot of people posting soundtracks of the J2ME port of AA. They sound like ringtones.

Regarding video footage, I've easily found the entirety of the first turnabout and trial day 1 of turnabout sisters. It seems like these are the only parts of the port that have been preserved.
Lastly, I'd like to mention the very first PC port for AA, released only in Japan by Sourcenext. I'd like to thank Packln Files for this video first, because if it wasn't for it, I wouldn't even have known that this version existed in the first place (and you should totally check that video out!) I only managed to find the second game archived though.
edit: i actually managed to find a youtube channel dedicated to this version of the game and i found all 3 games on internet archive, even the manuals are there!

"Lots of legwork to be done about interviewing the tenants as well before we can even pinpoint a suspect, I assume,” he stated with a nod. "It’s unfortunate that this had to interrupt your date, Fräulein Detective.”
She sighed, making a mental note of how comfortable Klavier’s jacket really was. The gigs from his musical career paid seriously well if he could afford to wear something like this on a regular basis. "No, I'd much rather be here than where I was," she replied testily, "even if working in heels sucks.”
~Titration, Chapter 3: I Did It For Science, HawkofNavarre
For this week, I’ll be collaborating with @sylsnon to illustrate a couple of scenes from one of our favourite Klema fics of all time, Titration! It’s been years since it was complete, but it still has a special place in our hearts <3 Klema fans, do head over and have a look at the fic! The writing is absolutely amazing!
