Awww bogus...
He was in my pocket, and I think I did in fact hear him alerting me that he was x2 sick but I was preoccupied with something and didn't get to him in time.. At least I managed to get him to adult stage and see several more changes. I think i'm done though, I've had my fill and i'm putting this guy away for now.
Full thoughts: This is a very challenging virtual pet. It shouldn't be. It has a pause function. It calls out for you every time it needs care. It's not super loud, but you should still be able to hear it if it's in the same room as you.
You can pause it by pressing A and B together, but i've done that, pausing it before work and checking up on it on my 10 minute break, it's normally fine, but i've also come back to it to find it unpaused with an attention call, so not super reliable. It died twice before reaching adult stage this month. I probably could have avoided it, because they were both a result of me ignoring it's calls, sleeping in with it unpaused the first time and leaving it upstairs unpaused at dinner time. This time I heard it and ignored it. So, my fault all three times.
It's sleep function is interesting, a good idea on paper, but in execution, a bit iffy. It has a "Sleep Meter" that depletes over time. It doesn't got to sleep on it's own, you put it to sleep when you're ready, and sleeping fills the meter. It wakes up automatically when the sleep meter is full but you can wake it up yourself if you want. The execution though... the sleep meter depletes way too slowly. This would be my favorite way a v-pet handles sleep if not for this fact. It pretty much gives you time for 8-10 hours of sleep a day, but if you sleep in, god help you. I think if they had the sleep meter deplete faster and fill up slower, giving you enough time for 10 hours plus a possible 3 hour nap, then it would be perfect.
This thing poops and gets sick a lot, and the animation for cleaning poo takes foreverrrrr. It's hunger and happy meters deplete at seemingly random intervals, they're definitely not synced. Sometimes the hunger will be mostly full but the hearts will just drop to almost empty, and i'm not sure what the rhyme or reason is. I think there's an element of randomness here. There's also two mini games, but they're functionally the same, press A or B, and there's a 50/50 chance you win, just like Tamagotchi P1.
You also have three foods, Meat, Carrot, and Water, but only the meat fills him. I hear they need all three to be healthy though, so I just feed him one of each for every empty part of the hunger meter, and got decent results.
This thing has an interesting growth tree, not sure how it works, but it can actually change it's adult form depending on the care you give it, or so I hear, I experienced this once or twice. However, the form it takes means little, it has two frames of animation as it wanders back and forth on your screen, but eating, mini game playing, win/lose animations, and sleeping all just use the "good care adult" which is probably the worst part of the pet.
I sound like i'm being harsh, but I like this pet. I like it enough that I want to check out other pets in the Gyaoppi family. I have Chuppi, and a Super Gyaoppi 9-in-1, and there's one or two more out there i'd like to see.
I'd only recommend this one for hardcore enthusiasts and collectors who want a more challenging pet that will die if you miss a care call.
