back turned, bento in hand. the woman stuffed her face both effortlessly and plentifully, gathering piles of rice betwixt dainty chopsticks, nonchalantly filling her mouth without thought. at first, the presence of another hadn’t quite caught up to the thoughts that casually rippled throughout her mind, but her surroundings soon caught up to the ashen-haired as lashes flickered, sights trailed upon not only those who seemed to look at her in sheer shock, but also with the sound of barking that resonated from behind.

realisation was stark, turning around slowly to meet the animal that seemed to bark at her so intently. brow arose, flecks of rice falling gracelessly off of the corners of rosette lips and back into her bento. lashes continue to flicker as the woman blinked upon glancing down at the canine, head tilting ever so slightly.

musashi pondered for a moment, weighing up the options of handing her food over to the animal. but the more she met its gaze, the more she felt herself gradually yielding to such an assumption. with a soft sigh of defeat, the woman took one more ( hearty ) mouthful before removing the chopsticks, leaning down and placing the box before the yapping canine.

a hollow ache :  call this suffering more than the red lacquer that seeps through the cotton bandaged around bruised knuckles ,  the way his chest  rivets to fasten his breath .   if not for the bloodied lip ,  the maimed capillaries blushing above the bone of a fist trysted cheek ,  he wonders if the words would be different.  if there’d be a praise ,  or if during the moment he reminds jonathan of the sort of painting he’d admire with his mother in their travels ,  laminated with gold where the sun captures blond tresses ,  he would have found it within himself to say nothing at all .

but his brother isn’t like that ;   gold is too delicate a thing for him .   he’s the sort to tear it from a canvas ,  demand the whole thing be made of jewel .

the afternoon shadow of a black wood tree is almost a hug to him .   years have passed ,  &  still the wind carries in a breadth of the isolation first knot with dio’s presence .   he almost withdraws into himself ,  the way he does in the shade ,  wishing the bark claws would bend downwards just a bit.   ❝   i’ll tell dad i brashly got into a fight.  it wouldn’t be a lie.   ❞
