Are you still taking drabbles? Maybe one with Dawei or Hana
“How do you know so much about hair…..? Minji inquired, watching Dawei in the mirror as he pinned her bun of curls in place, leaving loose ringlets to frame her face.
“Not by choice, I can assure you. Out of necessity. Koei- I mean, Dad, was able to step in when Hana needed it but he was horrible with the girl side of things. If she needed to get dressed up for something and wasn’t able to do it herself, he was at loss and somebody had to figure it out. Jun is too much of a boy, Athenais is like a ghost and hard to find, and Zinger….well….. is Zinger. So I picked up a few things here and there, helped Hana out in the fashion department when I could even though I prefer writing poetry as my creative outlet.”
He brought over a thin piece of fabric, sheer and close enough to a veil for him to use as an example. “Now, this style works with a veil that will cover your face,” he said, holding the fabric against her forehead so it would drape down, “or one that is in the back,” he finished, taking the fabric and positioning it around the bun where a veil would be. “But you know, it’s totally up to you.”
Minji nodded, looking at her reflection in the mirror, Dawei looking over the subtle creation he had made with her hair. It wasn’t poetry but it was still a masterpiece. She sighed softly, bottom lip jutting out ever so slightly. “How will I know if he even still wants to marry me?”
“Now, what kind of a question is that, saozi?”
“Oh, uh, it means sister-in-law. Still. Explain. You were about to do that.”
Minji shrugged, taking the makeshift veil to play with between her fingers. “Wedding jitters? I don’t know but I keep worrying that he’ll just…. disappear one day and never come back. I don’t see him often- which isn’t his fault and I completely understand-,” she interjected quickly, “But I’m afraid that one day he’ll appear and realize he doesn’t love me or he’ll just stop showing up altogether.”
Dawei’s frown became more pronounced as Minji spoke and, once she had stopped, he pinched her shoulder, eliciting a pitched squeal from the bride to be.
“When Jun is freaking out or overreacting, I sometimes pinch him to make him focus. I was hoping it would do the same for you.”
“It gave me a pain in my shoulder......”
“But, you’re thinking about the pinch now, and your mind is cleared out of the other stuff which was confusing you. Jun loves you more than life itself, I think. And I mean that literally. Gege thinks in hyperbole, everything is an exaggeration. When he says he’d die without you, he means that. If he disappears, it’s not because he doesn’t love you. He’d probably be fighting to see you anyway.”
“I know you’re right. I still can’t shake the feeling.”
“It’ll pass,” Dawei assured. “Besides, Hana wouldn’t let him disappear on you at all.”
“Are you kidding? As much as I love him, I don’t want to hear him complain about not being able to see you. I’d force him to do check ins.”
