Francis Poulenc's Hôtel

The words are from a short poem by French poet, playwright and novelist Guillaume Apollinaire. Something about it just enchants me.

Ma chambre a la forme d’une cage Le soleil passe son bras par la fenêtre Mais moi qui veux fumer pour faire des mirages J’allume au feu du jour ma cigarette Je ne veux pas travailler je veux fumer

(translation by Richard Stokes) My room is shaped like a cage The sun slips its arm through the window But I who want to smoke to make mirages I light my cigarette on daylight's fire I do not want to work I want to smoke

نزل ماجستيك (بالفرنسية: Hôtel Majestic) هو فندق شيد في 1912 وهو من طراز الفن الجديد، يقع في شارع باريس في قلب تونس العاصمة في تونس. هو فندق ذو 4 نجوم حاليا.

بدأ بناء المبنى في 1912 وانتهت الأشغال في 1913، وذلك من قبل المهندس الفرنسي بول أوغوست بارون، وكان مالكه الأول رونيه كسراوي.

بين نوفمبر 1942 ومايو 1943، استولت القوات الألمانية على الفندق وأصبح مقر قيادتها، ثم المقر الرئيسي للقوات الأمريكية بعد تحرير تونس أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية.

حتى السنوات 1960، كان الرئيس التونسي الحبيب بورقيبة يستقبل ضيوفه من الرؤساء والضيوف الرسميين في نزل ماجستيك.
