Chapter Eight: The Real World is Far From Real
"Yes! I love getting out!" Farah told Emily happily as the group of girls went on ahead.
Emily had happily taken Farah over to her friends so they would stop talking about dirty things. "She's a four year old girls. Keep it clean." Emily had warned her friends. Now she wondered why she hadn't grabbed another girl. Farah kept talking about how much fun it was gonna be to go. She kept saying things that hurt Emily's brain until she finally tuned out the little girl. She absentmindedly wandered away from the group and down a darker ally way.
"EMILY? Are you even listening to my exciting story about trying to bite a mosquito?" Farah whined.
Emily snapped back into reality. Where are we? she thought. This wasn't the group she was following. "Fair-Bear do you recognize any place here?" she asked the four year old. She had lived in the city her whole life and didn't recognize it.
"You kids lost?" A young woman asked. She was obviously poor. She had red hair and brown eyes and was skinny. "What'chu looking for?" she asked.
"I'm looking for my mommy and the orphans. This is Emi and she's not really an orphan but her mommy stopped loving her and... Emi are you OK?" the girl asked as she saw tiny tears from in Emily's eyes.
Emily wanted so badly to tell the four year old everything Mrs. Fledgling had told her. She wanted to tell the little brat she was an orphan just like the rest of them. Farah had carried on these overly rude actions all the time Emi was there and maybe even more. Farah thought she owned it all. Farah thought she was head in charge, she could do as she pleased.
"Don't do it Emily. I'm Hayley." the young hobo said extending her hand. "Don't tell her your secrets." she warned. Was this some sort of Hobo-Fortuneteller? It appeared that way. She was obviously out of home, hadn't had a shower in days, and barely ate.
"How do you know what I'm thinking?" Emily asked stepping back.
Hayley laughed. "Sweetie, I am what your thinking." she said fading away.
Emily jolted upright. That was weird. She thought to herself. She head been considering telling Farah for a while now. The little girl had gotten on her last nerves.
Hayley had told her not to tell. Hayley was all her thoughts... Was Hayley her future? Would she be a young woman living on the streets trying to scrape up a meal? Emily shuddered. Hayley wasn't her. Hayley was a dream.
Or was she?
