IT’S NOT A SMALL CHURCH BY ANY MEANS -- there can be upwards of two to three hundred people attending Sunday service, but he is so very attuned to the regulars of the place that he can spot a newcomer pretty easily. It’s not that he’s got some special power or skill, but it’s a gut feeling mixed with his own instincts and observations. And, it also helps that the man in question looks entirely out of place, here. He’s also has some variation of light green hair, which makes him very easy to remember.
The woman he comes with is newer to the congregation, but the man who meets her at the doors to the church today after service lets out, he is less familiar with. He has attended service when Hoseok was preaching before, he remembers because among a sea of black and brown heads of hair -- even in the far back, mint was easy to spot. He doesn’t come regularly, sometimes doesn’t even walk into the church, but he is a person that Hoseok recognizes, all the same.
Maybe he is her son? Or a nephew?
As the people flood out between the large double doors, Hoseok does his job of shaking hands and saying goodbyes to the churchgoers as he stands at the exit. Because he wasn’t the leading pastor, his main obligation is to wish them well as they all return to their homes. He’s struck up a conversation with the woman over his sermon last week, as the crowd dwindles, and Hoseok is surprised to see the minty-haired man approach them. As they exchange a few words, Hoseok waits patiently to be introduced, and when they finally are, he offers a handshake. “Pastor Jung Hoseok, pleasure. If I’m no mistaken, I think I’ve seen you around on Sundays before?”
And, because he figures it would never hurt, “Sunday service is a bit formal, and it’s not for everyone, but I do host and run less formal groups on Thursdays for young adults, if you are ever interested.”
