Being a cop and a dad is a tough job. Having a partner who has your back always and no matter what can make it a lot easier.

Meeting Steve and having a big Ohana for sure made things easier for Danny. He was forced to move to Hawaii, he was forced to fight to protect his daughter but he stopped being alone the moment Steve forced himself into his life. Danny had the support and the back up John didn’t have, he even isolated himself in order to find Doris’ killer. I don’t think John was a bad parent, Steve has a lot of fond memories of him. Sadly he was not as affectionate as Danny is with his kids, and he took the worst decision ever when he sent his kids away. That’s why I think Steve looks up at Danny as a role model dad. He is a lot of things John wasn’t (and Steve doesn’t want to be) and he would never let Steve screw up.
