So.... I've been thinking about Danny's future hallucinations...

- Steve's gone. The restaurant might still be there but it's not theirs.

- Adam and Kono broke up, so I don't see a baby girl in their future.

- We haven't seen Grace for a while and at this year's Thanksgiving episode when Lou's dad was schooling Will about the importance od having a strong willed woman in their lives Grace was never mentioned (and it was a good oportunity). So I'm not sure they are still dating.

- I'm not gonna get into the Charlie one because the way this is playing out, it's gotta be something big and nasty to prevent Charlie from graduating from the Academy.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Forget McDanno and them living together. Will Steve even making it?!?!? I'm sooooo not liking how everything in Danny's hopes and wishes for the future is being shattered....

Headcanon: Steve is very protective of Danny following the shooting. So much so that he breaks into Danny’s house consistently after Danny gets out of the hospital.

(He has a key but, c’mon, what’s the fun in that?)

Danny totally knows what’s going on.

He likes it.

Steve is wearing his pajamas. 

He ensconces himself into Danny’s couch and doesn’t look like he’s planning on moving anytime soon.

He’s staying the night (whether it’s in Danny’s bed or not) because otherwise, he has nightmares where Danny’s dead body tells him “why didn’t you save me?” and Grace cries in his arms. 

After the first night of staying in the guest room and bolting upright multiple times in the night, Steve creeps into Danny’s room. Danny just throws back the covers and lets Steve crawl into bed with him. Steve holds Danny tightly to reassure himself that Danny is alive and well.

McDanno & Danny's fears

In 4x19 Danny admits to Steve while trapped under a building that he isn't built to be happy. He says, "Even on my wedding day, right before I'm about to say I do to Rachael, all I can see is the day that she's gonna serve me with divorce papers." He tells Steve that every time he is happy or has something good in his life, all he can see is it ending.

Now, take that information and look at 8x10. We have Danny imagining his life as a restaurant owner with Steve, Grace getting married at Steve's, he and Steve at Charlie's graduation, and he and Steve growing old together. He has this happiness in his life, something good with Steve, and he can't imagine it ending. Can't imagine Steve not being there for every moment of the rest of his life.

Danny tells Steve that he can't even imagine himself being happy in 4x19, and then in 8x10 we literally see Danny imagining a life of happiness with Steve. While flatlining on an operating table, Danny finally lets himself be happy. And where does he go in his mind? To Steve.
