Ignite Rural Medicine March 20th - University of Montana
The nation’s first Ignite event dedicated to rural medicine is scheduled for March 20, 2015 at the University of Montana. Rural Medicine Ignite will be part of the country’s first Rural Medicine Hackathon, a 72-hour weekend event designed to spark innovation and develop solutions to some of rural medicine’s biggest challenges.
Ignite is a fast-paced geek event started by Brady Forrest, Technology Evangelist for O'Reilly Media, and Bre Pettis of Makerbot.com, formerly of MAKE Magazine. Speakers are given 20 slides, each shown for 15 seconds, giving each speaker 5 minutes of fame. The first Ignite took place in Seattle in 2006, and since then the event has become an international phenomenon, with gatherings in Helsinki, Finland; Paris, France; New York, New York; and many other locations. The tagline for Ignite is, “Enlighten us but make it quick.” Although it’s the first one focused on rural medicine, this will be the sixth Ignite event in Missoula.
The Rural Medicine Ignite and Hacking Rural Medicine events bring together clinicians and administrators with a diverse group of entrepreneurs, engineers, students, medical residents, programmers, students, and designers. Participants will collaborate openly as they work to solve challenges facing the healthcare system.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 7:00 PM with two keynote speakers:
Terry Hill, Executive Director of Rural Health Innovations, and Senior Advisor to the National Rural Health Resource Center, and
Sarah Calhoun, rural community leader and entrepreneur, and founder of Red Ants Pants.
