Old London view - Hackney Station by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: An old photograph of the area in front of Hackney Railway Station, London, at the junction of Amhurst Road and Mare Street. The station and line were operated by the North London Railway. There are no details on the photo but if someone knows who took it message me the name and I will credit them. Matthew Rose & Sons began as a draper’s shop at 335 Mare Street, Hackney, in London. By 1868 the business had expanded to become a department store selling furniture and household goods, occupying 347-357 Mare Street and 2-18 Amhurst Road. By 1900 M. Rose & Sons was the leading department store in Hackney which was a vibrant and fashionable shopping area at this time. The store continued to trade until 1936 when it was taken over by Marks & Spencer. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 ------------------------------------------------- If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. Any photograph, ephemera, etc I post on Flickr is in my possession, nothing is copied from another location. The original photographer may have taken copies from their original negative and passed them out (sold them?) so there may be other copies out there of your (and my) 'original' transport photo, although occasionally there may be 'holiday snaps' type photos where there are not any other photos exactly the same in existence. If you wish to use this image (bearing in mind it may not be my copyright) or obtain a full size version (most of my uploads are small size) please contact me.
