#michaelaloni #Shtisel #hadasyaron #tbt From 1 year ago. Turns out I did finish my rewatch of Shtisel before my trip to NY! "I watched the last 2 episodes of the series today as part of my rewatch, but this post focuses on the last episode. I'm sad to have finished again, but I'm glad to have it all fresh in my mind for Wednesday night. It was a beautiful end to this engrossing series, with a powerful arc for Kive. He's grown so much & now stands up for himself & his art, even though it may cost him Libbi and his father. The pictures in the post come from 3 pivotal moments: when Kive gives a TV interview about his painting (and does an amazing job); right after the devastating fight Kive has with Shulem, which stems from Shulem's misunderstanding & unwillingness to really listen to his son; & the very last scene in which Libbi finds Kive at his museum exhibition after finally seeing how she & Kive have suffered at the whims of Shulem & Nuchem's fighting--she stands up to her father & figures out what she wants, a life with Kive where she is supportive of his painting. If Season 3 comes to fruition, a key question to answer is if Kive & Libbi reconcile. Here is part of the TV interview where he discusses his painting of a mother nursing her baby, as it gives great insight into Kive. Kive: There is nothing Chrisian about it. Nor Jewish either. It's simply a memory. Interviewer: A personal memory? Kive: Yes. Every painting is an attempt to turn the present into a memory. This painting is a memory of a memory. The baby is me but he's also my son. Int: I don't understand. The baby in the painting is you. And the woman is your mother? Kive: She is, and she isn't. Int: How does an orthodox man from Meah Shearim become a figurative artist about to have an exhibition in the Israel Museum? That's...Kive: First of all, I didn't grow up in Meah Shearim, I grew up in Geula. They're close but not the same. I started painting when I was a child, I painted for many years but I gave it up 1 year ago. I never thought I would take up a paintbrush again. Int: So what happened? Kive: I met a woman. Int: I see. Kive: She restored my desire to paint. She restored my desire." https://www.instagram.com/p/CBMsjPCjFLx/?igshid=561005cguy95
