their conversation is naught but a gentle lull like that of the river styx, their relationship has been tempestuous ever since zagreus endeavored to escape the underworld. it was bitter, it was ugly in the pit of death’s stomach and sometimes he wonders when such emotions started to settle within his once barren heart. why would such a thing bother him as if he could never see the prince again? why when he was capable of going to the surface, thanatos could’ve very well have found the thoughtless godling without issue, and yet the mere concept of zagreus leaving left a fire to warm his freezing body.

❛  you needn’t flatter me with your words, zagreus.  ❜  though, hearing them causes a skip in his heartbeat, his warm complexion is decorated with a unique shade of purple, it’s ... embarrasing. discussing emotions, or deeper meaning to intent and purposes  -  thanatos would naturally take his leave in this very moment, cease all ventures in this fruitless conversation, but instead, death lowers himself, feet plant themselves on the floor and he looks off at some spot on the floor. anything to try and get his thoughts in order.  ❛  you .. never needed me for that.  ❜  he starts, you make me feel safe  -  he doesn’t, thanatos knows, he doesn’t. he couldn’t have been that safe haven for the prince, because if he was, then why does zagreus still ... ?

❛  i can never tell if you say the things you say because deep down you hope it’s what i want to hear.  ❜  golden eyes finally lock with mismatched eyes,  ❛  you ... vex me, sometimes, zagreus. for all your openness, all your emotions, and exuberance  -  i can never read you to completion.  ❜  but then thanatos takes a deep breath and finally speaks his mind,  ❛  if i make you feel safe ... why do you still hope to leave? if you feel safe with me ... would you still leave even after finding your mother?  ❜
