Haibara’s Teenage New Game+ ✅ 6/10

Textbook definition of mid despite having an interesting premise. I was really hoping this would scratch the Bokutachi no Remake itch I’ve had for years and for an episode or two, it did, before devolving into a useless love triangle that ultimately added nothing to the story. I also think the message of lose weight and pull hot girls is not really productive? You’re given a new lease on life and you attract these people after you become “hot” that’s just shallow to me.

There was much more opportunity for depth here that the author to this point has squandered in favor of rehashing the same tired romcom tropes. It’s a shame because it has a lot of potential. The MC’s trauma, the dreams he never got to pursue as a kid which caused him to become insular as an adult and not go outside of his comfort zone. Like there’s a cool story you can tell here that can actually help people in their normal day to day lives, but it’s just more of the same stuff we’ve seen 100x.

The best part of the story was the band stuff in the last few episodes and they should’ve set that up earlier in the story and just focused on that really. You could’ve used the MC’s trauma to help him write songs and heal from his past life while also fulfilling his lifelong dream of being a musician. That’s a story that would’ve resonated with people more because we’ve all had things we wish we’d done when we were younger and then we think we’re too old to do them now, but the reality is it’s never too late. You don’t need a magical do over, it’s never too late to try something new.. or, you could drag out a useless love triangle for 8 weeks just to give us the answer we knew we’d get from day 1.

Just disappointing. Miori should’ve been the female lead and priority.
