Artemis Day's Top Ten Favorite Lokane Fics (Oneshots)- Number 9
Under the Haze of Sleep by Haikoui

This is a very recent addition to the fandom, a short and simple Thor: the Dark World based fic, something I am quickly finding I have a real affinity for (hint hint).
One thing I really like about this story is it's portrayal of Jane. The very first line in the story outright tells us that she is afraid of Loki, and why shouldn't she be? It's no secret that the guy is a genocidal maniac even if he didn't try to take over the Earth. Nonetheless, she spends the whole story standing up to him and never once taking his shit. She may be shaking underneath and he may know that she's shaking underneath, but she never gives him the satisfaction of actually seeing it.
She's also very aware of her own limitations compared to the two literal gods she's traveling with, even though she struggles to keep up with them. She doesn't want to be looked down on by anyone, Loki or otherwise. The story hints at a lot of strain between her and Thor regarding this, but that's a whole different issue.
Her interactions with Loki are also very good, such as when Loki assumes Jane doesn't understand what it is to lose one's family and Jane immediately puts him in his place with the explanation that she herself has been an orphan since she was a young girl, and that at least Loki still has people he can call family, even if he won't.
My only complaint is that from there, things get a tad rushed. Jane seems to go from all but hating Loki to wanting to help him very quickly and I would have liked a little more to the story to flesh it out.
All in all, this is a solid oneshot from a new Lokane writer whom I'm hoping we'll see more from.
