Week Three: Intolerance

I know what you're thinking. 'This is Pride, why are we - ' Listen. The world isn't sunshine and roses out there, and part of being a freak is that everyone else knows it. That you're different. Other. And most people? They can't handle what they don't understand.

What I'm saying is, as much as it sucks, dealing with intolerant assholes is part of being queer. If you've never experienced that? Good for you. Happy for you or whatever. But this week isn't for you.

It's for those of us who have been shit on, because talking about it is the only way we can change things. So come to Onigiri Miya, and tell us your story.

The only thing a tolerant society cannot tolerate is intolerance.

Week Two: Community!

Listen. No man is an island. Or woman or anythin' in between or outside or whatever, get off my back, wouldja, Samu? Point is, life ain't meant ta be lived alone, and I'm not just talkin' about a partner or two! Us queers and weirdos, we're nothin' if we don't got each other, and that's what family's all about.

So this week, I cordjally invite every last one'a you to join the Miya family, eat some rice, and talk about what it means ta have each other's backs. Especially when yer back hasn't been had before. Or somethin'.

Week One: Coming Out!

Coming Out isn't something that happens just once. We are perpetually having to come out, to reveal a part of ourselves that we're worried others might not be able to handle. The relief that comes with being allowed to exist in your own skin, the stretch of wings as you break out of your cage and take flight... all of these things are what this week is all about. It doesn't have to be something you say out loud, or it could be something you've said a hundred times before.

Coming out is still important, even if everyone already knows.

So, take an onigiri with you as you begin your journey. Food always makes any difficult conversation easier.
