The night seemed to glisten, same as Frankie’s dress under club’s pulsating lights. She was on fire - this was her element as she twirled and jumped with the strangers of the beach. In the whispers of her mind, she knew she didn’t entirely belong. LA seemed to pour through this Catalina hotspot, the circle of angels through which she’d never been able to break. This was her first time at Descanso. Only with a best friend like Lizzie who wore the name Kennedy was she able to get in, so she shouldn’t have been surprised when a certain head of blonde hair caught her eye.
At no fault of her own whatsoever, Ellie’s ascension into stardom sizzled like asinine. Frankie’s fears of inadequacy stabbed like talons, for they had started on equal footing. Perhaps if Frankie had only been braver, tougher, more resilient, she could have been dancing right beside her successful cousin. The actor and the writer. What a duo they could have been. She half considered leaving, some piece of her deciding it would be painless to slip away and avoid a reunion, but silver shoes stuck to the floor as she felt herself unable to look away. Without intention, Frankie’s olive eyes caught their twin pair when Eleanor looked over at her. Lifting an uncertain set of fingers, Frankie waved, wearing a fool’s smile.
