Hey there Delilah Blurb

I was talking to @thoseofgreatambition about our OC’s and we came up with this little gem of an idea. 

Characters: First year OC’s Deliliah and Gwendolyn Hughs (read the first chapter of this here  )

FLOWERS IN HER HAIR 

The weather had finally cleared up. Spring was starting to pop it’s head in from the winter chill that hung around in the mornings. With the new sun from the past few days, wildflowers had started to pop up in little clusters. In between classes, I had started to gather a little pile in my bag. I didn’t necessarily like picking them, I had a thought of a better idea for them. 

As if she read my mind, I saw her fussing over a pile of books. 

“GWENDY!!” Her head shot right up. I ran towards where she was sitting, hair tied up in a shiny new ribbon. 

“I thought I asked you to stop calling me that, Dee?” She heaved out, not looking up from the book she was reading. 

“And I recall not listening.” I plopped down cross-legged in front of her. She still didn’t move. I crossed my arms and started to think. 

After a few seconds, I signed loudly and dramatically. No response. I repeated it three more times and nothing. 

Suddenly taken over by hating the feeling of being ignored, I flopped myself over her lap and covered up the book she was reading. I threw my arm over my face and pretended to cry. 

“May I help you?” She said, desperately trying to hold back giggles. 

“Oh no. Don’t stop on my account. I just thought that my best friend would want to at least acknowledge she can see me. Especially when I brought her something.” I pulled my arm away from my face in time to see her roll her eyes. 

“All right. I’ll bite.” She says deadpan, suddenly she perks up and smiles at me. “What did you bring me?” Her tone matches mine, I decide to ignore the mild teasing. 

Sitting up, I reach over to my bag and pull it towards me. Sliding around to sit behind her. “You’ll see!” 

Untying the ribbon from her hair, I picked up the pile of colorful flowers and started to braid them into her hair. 

I peered over her shoulder to look at what she was working on. Potions. 

“I just don’t know how you do so well in that class. Snape gives me the creeps.” I gave a dramatic shiver. 

She just kept reading. “He’s not actually going to poison you. Just threaten it.” My hands stopped at her words. “Just get over the threat of murder, it’s fine.” 

“The sad thing is, I can’t tell if you’re joking or not.” I shook my head to get his scowl out of my mind and started back braiding. After a few minutes, you weren’t as fast as your father was at doing this, she winced as you pulled a little too tight mistaking the hair for a flower stem. 

“Ow! What are you even doing? It’s nearly impossible to do my work with you pulling at my hair so much.” Her hand came up to touch it, before you pushed it back down.

“You really need to lighten up Gwendy. Your aura is so intense.” She seemed to sag a little at my comment. 

“How can I lighten up when there’s so much work to get done?! We have two essays due next week and Snape wants me to write out the different uses of belladonna for that extra credit.” 

Now you were rolling your eyes, you two often disagreed about these types of things. 

“Okay first off, due next week means do next week. Next. It’s extra credit. You’re the only one that demands to be not only the top, but the top by a whole extra person.” You signed again. “You do know you can’t get two E’s in the same class right?”

“I…” Gwen started but I just kept going. 

‘Plus that is so leading. Very rarely does anyone call in Belladonna. It’s just a deadly nightshade seed. Highly toxic and can cause delirium or hallucinations. Also you can make it into a syrup with a few other things and it’s used in the drought of peace potion.” She turns her head slightly to look at you. 

“Okay now repeat that, slower this time.” After she wrote down what you said. She paused and said in a small voice. 

“What’s the point of being good at things if you’re not going to be the best? Besides-I want to beat Graves for top in potions. He made fun of my mum, so I want to make him cry.” Her voice got intense before she went silent and started making small swirls on a piece of parchment. 

“Cause I know how to have fun. Everyone knows you’re loads smarter than him, you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. But also just for that comment. Make.Him.Regret.It” She slammed her book closed. 

“I already know I’m smart. Can’t I have fun this way? I still get to see you and my other friends plenty, so how bad can it be? Anyways- he cried for hours last week, give me a few more points and I think we can break him.” 

I held my chin in a fake thinking face before I lit up. 

‘Imagine how he would feel if I did better than him!” I slouched a little. “Guess I actually have to try on this next one.” I scowled at the thought. 

“Oh I love that. Let’s get you studied then.” She clapped her hands together excitedly, I groaned out loud and rolled over so my face was in the grass. 

“You're so lucky I love you!”
