The Worldharmony Project

Hello! My name is Allison, and I launched The Worldharmony Project as a social media-based platform that uses our voices and images to connect human lives to the headlines, textbook articles, TV/movie characters and statistics we read, hear and see in our daily lives. Through the telling of our personal stories, I hope together we will help dispel myths and stereotypes, and foster a more enlightened, tolerant and kind global community.

The Worldharmony Project will feature content created by Storytellers who have volunteered to tell their stories, in video format, on their own social media channels or via The Worldharmony Project, in response to audience questions that have been submitted regarding a topic. This blog will place a social context around the topic and provide bios on the Storytellers.

The videos developed with The Worldharmony Project are not theoretical in nature, nor are they mere discussions about why a perspective or practice is moral/immoral or helpful/hurtful. Our focus is the LIVED EXPERIENCE of that issue, and the impact of that lived experience on the Storyteller. A Storyteller’s video can be as creative as the Storyteller is: a group discussion, a poem, a local tour, a song, an immersive experience. Snippets from the videos will be featured across our social media channels to generate interest and discussion.

Who is our audience? Everyone! We especially want those in positions of leadership and power to understand the impact of their decisions. We want youth to learn about tolerance while they are young. We want to help people learn something new about the members of their communities, to help people become part of the solution to the serious problem of intolerance.

Who can become a Storyteller? Maybe you! If you want to become part of an upcoming topic, or suggest a topic you’d like to discuss as a Storyteller, you are welcome to contact me. Diversity is a major key: we want our Storytellers to span the range of ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sizes, locations, etc.

UPCOMING TOPICS

AFRICA: A week featuring Storytellers living in or raised in any of the 54 countries making up this amazing continent. The goal, as with all of our topics, is to answer audience questions to dispel myths and sterotypes regarding Africa and Africans. Hashtag: #AFRICAweek/WHP

THE BATHROOM BILL: Transgendered individuals are being sought to convey the personal impact of the proposed bill limiting transgendered individuals’ use of public bathrooms based, presumably, on the legal classification of their sex at birth. Hashtag: #BathroomBill/WHP

HAIR: Hair, believe it or not, is full of meaning. Our hair can be culturally significant. A style can convey a political message. Hair has caused us to lose jobs and obtain jobs. Good hair, bad hair, long hair, colored hair, fake hair, no hair, man buns, culturally appropriated hairstyles, weaves, wigs, extensions, barbershop/salon culture, the hair industry - got a personal experience to contribute to a week of hair stories?
