The young Juanita turns men’s heads, but is not taken seriously by them, because she is a 'mestiza' (mixed race). Her revenge ends in disaster for all. She first drives her husband Edward to the madhouse, then seduces his best friend Axel, pushing him to the brink of financial ruin in the process. After forcing him to cheat at cards, she betrays him to the police but he escapes arrest. When Juanita then tries to flee to Mexico with the one man she truly loves, a mestizo, Axel appears and shoots her. Lost Films. Fritz Lang, 1919.
