Here is my last planned fanart from Steven Universe's episode Change Your Mind. I wanted to finish this series on this one since the beginning before moving on to another kind of drawing, mainly because of its very spoiler-y nature and its relevance to the general plot of The Battle Of Heart And Mind and its resolution. If you haven't watched this show or episode yet, feel free to skip the rest of the description to remain surprised.
Steven is, obviously, the main character of this cartoon and has been struggling with his identity since the start of the show due to his unique nature as the only half-Gem, half-Human character. The more the plot moved forward and the more we got to ask ourselves if Steven was his own character or if he was a kind of reincarnation of Rose Quartz / Pink Diamond, his mother who gave up her physical form to give him birth. This question culminated while facing White Diamond who tried to force her fellow Diamond out of Steven's flesh body by pulling his Gem out of his navel in a very shocking moment. Instead of forming Rose back, however, another version of Steven, made of pink light, took shape around the severed Gem while the physical part of Steven became weak and on the verge of death. Emotionless but all powerful, Pink Steven then proceeded to go back to his body with the help of Connie and the both of them fused back together, proving once and for all that Rose Quartz was indeed gone and Steven was himself since the beginning. A very emotional moment for our favourite Crystal Gem, animated by the legendary James Baxter from Disney. Part Human, part Gem and fully just Steven ! An amazing conclusion to a never-ending question about identity.
Drawing-wise, I had a lot of fun with the shape of both Stevens' hair by trying to give them a rose-like vibe (the flower, not the color), as it is often portrayed in official merchandises. A pretty cool detail on Steven's design we do not often get to see with this cartoon's charming yet simplistic style.
I hope I didn't bore you too much with this series of fanarts. Hopefully, I'll be able to move on to something a bit different now.
