Just want to write a story that’s technically about politics and plot but really it’s all about a gracious queen and her husbands’ consort.
I’m watching K dramas right now so let’s say that consort works in a similar manner to that. It is an appointed rank, coveted by women, their children are also princes.
This consort doesn’t have much experience with the monarchs or their court before this. Then she gets there and realizes that not only is the queen beloved by the people but the king also has few or no other consorts and maybe the queen and king have very few or no children so she is directly stepping on this woman’s toes in every possible way.
Then she is introduced to the queen and this woman is Unbearably nice to her. she smiles at her, dines with her, introduces her to her to others with so much respect you’d think she was family.
Consort doesn’t know what to do.. is this a trick? Is she going to get poisoned? Why in the world would you be this goddamn nice to the woman sleeping with your husband?!??!
Then she sees the queen in a moment of weakness. Begins to slowly understand her character. See by marrying the king she was sent far from her family, they can’t talk often and she doesn’t want her female relatives trapped in how court politics can go so she won’t allow them to come here.
She fought with tooth and nail to be a perfect queen, to care for the kingdom. But being a half idol is lonely especially when your husband is absent at best and someone to avoid at worst. She does what she must.
Yet when her husband outside of her will brought another young girl to court…. She knew it was a little silly and desperate but she began thinking that maybe she could have a friend. One that was just close enough to her station that she could make jokes to or talk about something that wasn’t the betterment of a family or the kingdom. Just someone she hold onto.
The consort had no idea what the palace would hold for her. Turns out it held a woman she would die for, kill for.
There’s something about the people you love
the way they laugh
the way they move
something captivating that suddenly turns majestic
something I’ll never explain
but always feel
