How much longer do Melusine live vs Half-Melusine? How fast do Half-Mel's mature vs Melusine vs Elves?
Just a note that I need to update the existing codex entries in the public build to account for changed information, but that won't happen until Chp 1 updates
Melusine can live for hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years. What societies on the surface call "Melusine" encompasses a very diverse species and they don't actually know how long some Melusine will live. Their contact with them is limited to only a few cities and settlements, so their records are biased towards what they know from their points of contact.
A half-Melusine's lifespan will depend on the ancestry of their other parent. Half-Melusine with dwarven or elven ancestry will live longer than someone with Aeda or human parentage. Regardless, you're usually looking at around a couple hundred years or so (provided something else doesn't kill you first... the planet is pretty dangerous).
All species reach maturity at around 18-25 years of age, but for long-lived species, older folks may still view people in their first century as young and inexperienced. This tends to happen more in areas that are more homogenous in their makeup, like Farandor, a country in the south-west whose population is primarily dwarven.
i want to draw my half melusine mc but not sure how i should go w that? like skin color if they have other features just yeah worried about that
No problem!
The appearance of half-Melusine can vary, but there are a few physical traits they will always inherit from their Melusine parent:
pointed ears (every species descended from Eleneids have pointed ears)
fangs (but they’re not as prominent as full-blooded Melusine--if you look at Mel’s portrait, you’ll see that he has a hint of some fangs)
height (half-Melusine tend to be tall - the very short and short height options in the upcoming appearance selection will be greyed out if you go half-Melusine)
Many half-Melusine take on the vibrant skin colours of their Melusine parent (but not necessarily - some have regular skin tones). They can also have vibrant hair colours, but not always. It’s up to you as to how close to human you want them to look.
Some common colours for both skin and hair:
Scarlet
Coral
Green (deep green, sea green, any kind of green)
Teal and turquoise (like Mel)
Blue
Violet
Some of them have patterns of deeper skin pigmentation in the same colour family as their overall skin tone (that’s what the marks on Mel’s face are; they aren’t tattoos). These patterns can show up anywhere on the body (unlike Aeda, where their crest patterns are specifically around their eyes and forehead).
Yellow is the most common eye colour (Mel’s eyes are yellow, so are Rhodarth’s). Other Melusine eye colours:
Red
Orange
Yellow
Teal
Violet
For reference, here’s a physical description of Rhodarth from Chapter 1:
[...] You look up at the most imposing man you have seen in a long time. Half-Melusine, well over six feet tall, his complexion is a deep sea green and he wears his long green hair swept back into a high tail. It curls over his shoulder, almost as if it has a life of its own. He is dressed in black, the Count’s red kerchief tied loosely around his upper arm. He observes you through brilliant yellow eyes, pupils narrowed to slits.
For comparison, here’s a physical description of the Count, who is full-blooded Melusine:
A Melusine appears in the circular threshold. Tall and lean, he is dressed in loose-fitting trousers and a sheer purple robe kept open at the chest to show the intricate tattoos inscribed on his bright crimson skin. His sharp and angular face radiates a dangerous agelessness. Waist-length dark red hair is loosely gathered from his forehead, revealing pointed ears studded with gold earrings that match the glittering scales that wind from his wrists to his shoulders. He carries himself with an unearthly poise and flowing elegance, moving as though the air were water.
Hope that helps!
