I have a question for you! What do you think Sansa and Margaery's relationship is? Do you think it is a real friendship?
hi! do you mean in the show or in the books? because i think those are different things.
i think in the show margaery's interest in sansa is genuine. she was supposed to befriend sansa to have her agree to marry loras but i think in the end she started to care for her-- and it shows that in their interactions after sansa knows she’ll marry tyrion.
in the books, i’d like to give margaery the benefit of the doubt, because she’s not a pov character and those who describe her are heavily influenced by something (cersei and her paranoia, sansa and her admiration. maybe jaime is the most impartial of all - because he doesn’t know her - but still...).
if i’m supposed to think that even in the books margaery wanted to be friends with sansa, then we must agree that books!margaery is not as independent as show!margaery is. now, i don’t remember if sansa really notices it or it’s something that only the reader notices, but after she marries tyrion, the tyrells do not even look at her anymore. the only interaction she has with the tyrells after the wedding is when olenna redwyne fixes her net at joffrey’s wedding--and we all know now why she did it.
maybe margaery was forced by her family to let her go?
in the books margaery is 16 and sansa is 13 (i think ? i’m always confused by their books age), while in the show margaery is way older. so, i think that show!margaery is more difficult to restrain, because she’s basically an adult. let’s imagine her family told her to stop befriending sansa because she’s not important to them anymore: she’s an adult and she could have said no. i don’t think books!margaery could have done the same thing; she’s 16, she’s young, and she’s in a court that is not all flowers and feasts. she would have followed her family’s instructions even if she didn’t agree with them.
all of this, obviously, if we want to believe margaery’s interest in sansa is genuine, or has become genuine after a few interactions with her.
i’m not really, really fond of their relationship. i’m not sure what to think of margaery and i don’t know how much of what she said to sansa was sincere and how much was dictated by her family. i admit it’s more difficult not to appreciate their relationship in the show, because it seems margaery really cared about sansa, but still... mmh
as i said, i must give margaery the benefit of the doubt to enjoy their interactions.
