I spent so much time throwing rock at your window that I never knocked on your front door.

And now she was back at square one. Prompt: Alex's birthday party, just some of the cast from both old and new Who, Matt shows up late and drunk and professes his undying love to Alex.
Alex's birthday party was in full swing; Arthur and David were arm-wrestling at a table, Karen was mixing all sorts of crazy drinks, Catherine and Billie were dancing, Steven was chatting to some of the crew in a corner and Matt was... Well that was the problem; no one had any idea. He certainly wasn't at the party, even after he'd promised to show up. Now she was getting worried, he always kept his promises, whether it was something like buying her a new shirt the second he got paid to replace the one he'd ruined by spilling coffee or something important like... well, whatever was important to her.
She was about to step out of the disco hall to call him when the Macarena came on. Alex suspected Karen had requested it and her suspicions we soon confirmed as the noisy red head dragged her onto the dance floor.
When Alex had finally managed to escape, it was getting late and it made her all the more worried. She hurried out quickly and dialed Matt, silently begging him to pick up.
"Sorry I can't take your call right now, please leave a message..." *beep*
Alex sighed. "Matt, where are you? It's late and you're starting to worry me. Just please call me back."
And with that she put her phone back in her pocket and went to join the party again. David had won the arm wrestling, Karen had joined Catherine and Billie, Steven was dancing with Sue and she was dragged back onto the dance floor by the ginger scot.
---
Alex had finally loosened up, with just enough alcohol in her system that she was starting to dance and enjoy herself properly.
Karen was just teaching her some crazy routine when suddenly the music stopped. Everyone look round at each other then over to the sound system. Matt was stood there- or rather leaning on the mic stand for support. He looked disheveled; and with a microphone in hand, god knows what he might do.
"Alex!"
She stared at him. Whatever he was about to say or do she knew would embarrass him, her or both of them. Please not today...
"Alex!" He slurred again. "I need to tell you something very, very important. I've been doing lots and lots of thinking about this. And I think..."
He was babbling drunken nonsense. He was spoiling her party. He had gotten completely wasted and decided ruining her party would be the best idea. If he would just shut up and put the sodding music-
"I love you, Alex! I'm in love with you!"
And suddenly every pair of eyes in the room was on her. She didn’t need to look around, she could feel them all staring at her. The embarrassment and attention felt suffocating. Alex pushed people out of the way and ran out of the room, gulping in fresh air when she made it outside.
That was one of the most embarrassing things he had ever done to her. Tears were rolling down her cheeks. She just wanted to go home. She wished he'd never turned up.
"Alex?" That was his voice. He was trying to talk to her. Why couldn't he go away?
"Leave me alone, Matt..."
"Lex, please-"
"Don't call me that. Don't talk to me. Don't come near me. Just leave me alone!" she shoved him out of her way, hailed a cab and jumped in. All she wanted to see now was her bed. He had ruined her birthday. The man who usually made her laugh until she cried had instead upset her until she cried. Just when things had been going well...
---
In the morning, Alex had dragged herself from bed only to sit and watch crappy TV. She was upset and in no mood to socialise. When there was a knock at the door she groaned knowing who it was. Bastard. She was so angry. She had been dreading her 50th enough. His appearance had just made it worse.
"Alex, I know you're in." he called through her letterbox.
"Go away!"
"No. I need to talk with you."
She growled. He just didn't get it. She had been pushing down her feelings for him for years. Matt was too young, too good for her. He had Daisy- or at least used to. She couldn't give him what he wanted, a future and a family. Her love life always ended in tears and mostly her own. She had finally been convincing herself that it would never happen. She was moving on. And now she was back at square one.
She pushed up off the couch and stormed to the door, flinging it open. "What do you want?"
He shifted nervously from foot to foot. "I need to apologise..."
"For?"
"Being and absolute twat and ruining your day..."
She nodded. He had no idea had much he had actually screwed up.
"But the thing is... The alcohol was only to give me courage Lex."
"Oh don't start that crap. It doesn't wash with me." She turned and walked off inside, leaving the door open for him. He followed quickly, babbling about her letting him explain himself. She threw herself down on the couch.
"This better be good." she muttered. "Explain."
"I have been putting this off since I met you. I put it off because I knew I wasn't good enough. You're way out of my league and everyone can see it. I ended up leaving Daisy because my feelings for you are stronger than for her. I didn't want to lead her on. I want to be with you. But I knew I wouldn't be able to tell you the truth so I drank. And I drank and I drank and I drank. I didn't intend to get so utterly hammered. I just wanted to confidence to tell you the truth. I love you, Alex. More than anyone I've ever met. Please believe me..."
Alex was staring at him. Was he serious? He had felt exactly the same as her for three years and said nothing? She wanted to slap herself. She was normally so confident with all the flirting, teasing and banter. She never seems to be bothered. But she couldn't ask him on a simple date? What was wrong with her? She must be mad. She should have gone for it.
"Alex? Hello? You ok there?" She looked up at him. He was waving a hand to catch her attention. "You alright, Alex?"
"No." He frowned and looked disappointed. Then she sprang up from her seat and walk toward him. "But I will be..." And with that, she kissed him tenderly, her arms locking round him in a loving embrace as they melted against each other. She caressed his lower lip with her tongue gently until he opened his mouth to hers and deepened the kiss. Alex wound her arms round his neck and moaned softly. He didn't seem taken aback by her forwardness at all as he moved to lay her on the couch and climb on top of her.
He ran his hands down over her chest, ribs, stomach and lower, making her groan. Her hips bucked up into his hand as he stroked between her thighs, over the jogger bottoms she was wearing. He bit his lip. She reached up to lift his shirt off, losing the contact that was ruining her underwear as he raised his arms.
He undressed her slowly beneath him, tracing his lips over her flesh as a new piece was revealed. She moans gloriously. "Matt... Please... I have wanted you for so, so long now..."
"Likewise, Kingston. I intend to make the most of this..."
---
Not long later they lay together on her sofa, bodies tangled and covered in a thin layer of sweat. Alex nuzzled Matt's neck affectionately and trailed her fingertips up and down his arm gently. His lips brushed her temple and she felt him smile. Her feelings had risen to the surface again. She was undoubtedly his now. No questions asked. She knew this was it for them. The happy, long relationship they both wanted.
"Matt...” she whispered softly.
"Yes, beautiful?"
"I love you too..."
