@halfvampyr asked: “You’re not a monster, Papa.”
THE WORDS HAD A SLOW smile spreading across his face. For so many decades Edward had regarded himself as a creature of two halves: the man and the vampire, the humanity that will resided within him, and the monster trying to kill it. The creation of the venom that roared in his mind when he smelled human blood, that commanded him to kill if it was just too good. Like Bella’s had been. The entire time in that tiny Biology lab, he had battled with himself to stay rooted to his seat and not rip her throat out.
Since then, he had managed to reconcile his two halves. The monster within was him with a different face, a part of who he was, a part of him that Bella had seen and loved regardless. A part she had embraced and chosen for herself. And while he had never truly seen that side of her, Edward knew she had a vampire half as well. They all did. He had tried not to call it a ‘monster’ around their child though, but it was a difficult endeavour, and obviously she had picked up on it.
“Thank you, my love,” he replied, cupping the back of her head and bringing her close to kiss her forehead. “You don’t know how much it means to hear you say that.”
