my entire blog is just asks from my friends i missed you all so much 🥺
can white people stop saying “at least they tried” when poc talk about how a white author writes terrible representation as if we’re supposed to be grateful for the least they give us.
i rly don’t have much energy but i am very tired of people taken inspiration from arab and Islamic history and then completely erasing arab islamic representation.
i, as an arab, have realized that i really won’t be getting to see arabs with good rep on tv. it’s a sad truth but still the truth. i want to see it change and i keep hearing people saying they want it to change but they’re just words. when we do get arabs in books or media, they’re caretakers or car drivers or worse, terrorists (the latter is the one that’s the most) and it just hurts to see every single time.
when i heard about dune i was actually a little excited! i heard it had elements from arab and islamic history! in fact, dune would be nothing without our history. to learn that no middle eastern actor has been announced in the cast was so disappointing. it hurts and it’s so harmful to us.
here’s what! zendaya is a talented actress but to erase the arab identity from the characters that they play is the equivalent to whitewashing. it is whitewashing.
i am sick and tired of being erased. please don’t support dune.
hey. coming off my hiatus for ONE second to say that people need to stop using the word terrorist when y’all want to disrespect someone. this word has been used to target me and every muslim out there for our entire lives. it hits us where ever we go so do not use it. throwing around words with heavy islamophobic connotations is fucking disgusting. it’s completely insensitive and fucking terrible. in general, before you type out something, think about how that will affect someone, especially minorities. have some fucking human decency.
okay, i feel so annoying for doing this but i decided to change my name to halla! it’s actually a rather small reason behind it but! just dm if you wanna know! so, yeah!
i will also start tracking #userhalla ! i’ll still track my old tag for a while, but please start tagging me using this tag!
semi hiatus.
