Kharris looks down at the table and drags a fingernail over the wood. She focuses on the sound and the skipping of the motion as it drags. “Halodante was a beautiful girl. Ethereal, haunting, but pretty when you looked. … And then something happened to her and she got those scars on her cheeks and even the way she moved changed. I don’t know what happened to her. And I don’t like to speculate. I had a nightmare once.” Kharris looked up. “6 out of 10. Seven, if I’m in the right mood. She can still be beautiful, but she is sinister now, too.”
