Ofc our silly lil bug is the florist and Loki is a guy who's just confused on what should he get for someone as a gift. It never hurts to give someone a flower right? How convenient that there's a flower shop down the street he was walking, has it always been there?
He walks into the store, causing the bell on the door to jingle, then he is greeted by this sweet young lady who seemed to also adore the color green like him. Honestly the visual of an alien bug lady taking care of flowers is so cute.
I feel like Loki has knowledge about flower languange but let's pretend he's not as well versed as Mantis, he asked for help with a gift but they ended up talking about the meaning of flowers and bouquets.
Oh my god wait, them sharing their knowledge about flowers with one another cus like Loki is from Asgard and let's pretend in this au Mantis stays on earth
"In Asgard there's this flower that holds the meaning of---"
"Really? On earth we also have similar flower--"
Something that was meant to be a short visit turns into a long one as Loki finds himself so immersed in the language of flower while Mantis working on his bouquet.
Keep it tame, sweet, let their relationship blossom slowly.
Maybe Loki now visits once every month, and then once every two weeks, and then once every week. He's a busy man, making connections here and there, attending so many parties and meeting, that's why he needs so many flowers every month, Mantis thought. Sometimes he doesn't buy a whole bouquet, sometimes he just walks in, buy one or two flowers, talks with her about his day, and left.
She always keeps track on which flower he bought, thoughts that would appear in her mind would be: it seems like he's congratulating someone, someone is having a baby? Looks like today is someone's birthday, oh, he picked that flower, he is feeling happy today.
Yknow what it got me thinking that the reason Mantis (in this au) picks up flower languange so she can stop using her mind reading control too often and just decipher her customer feelings by looking at the flower they picked, she only use her power when they're confused on what to get...no wait that's really sweet honestly.
And then maybe one day she noticed Loki starts to pick up flowers that means adoration, love, affection, curiosity, etc. Is he seeing someone? He comes here everyday now but he never ordered a bouquet, just 1 flower each day, are they having a date everyday? He must really adore his partner.
I was going for a total fluff, but my heart keeps saying how about a lil angst, just itty bitty angst. Mantis is happy for him, so why does she feel... slightly upset. Jealousy? Nonsense, Loki is just a regular customer who keeps buying flowers from her almost everyday. Maybe Mantis here is just wondering what would it feels like to receive flowers from--no, no, no, what is she thinking. Aaah, truly, whoever it is that keeps getting flowers from that guy must be lucky.
I mean like, Mantis is a florist, but how often do florist ever get a flower for themselves?
Maybe we make her tease him a little, "The person who receives flowers from you everyday must be very lucky."
Then she noticed a slight blush on his cheeks and how he looked around like he's been caught, "O-oh, yes, they should be! It's a privilege to receive flower from a person such as myself, after all." Though Mantis could feel that there's a little bit of lies in the way he answered it. No, no, Mantis, you can't just use your power on other people, it's not nice!
After that conversation, she realized now he's been avoiding her eyes everytime he comes to buy a flower, oh no perhaps she shouldn't have brought it up, he must be feeling embarrassed.
It seems like Loki is a little bit late today, Mantis hasn't seen him coming into the shop at his usual time. Oh no maybe he got too embarrassed and now he's going to stop coming here. Insert Mantis panicking slightly on the inside as she rearrange some flowers.
She turned around quickly to find Loki walking in with a large bouquet of flowers.
"My apologies, did I startle you?" He chuckled upon seeing the surprised look on her face, "Were you worried that I might not come here today?"
I thought about Mantis being in denial but I think it's cuter that she admits it.
"I was. I thought you might forget to buy some flowers, but it seems like you already got yourself a huge one."
"Ah, this?" He steps forward and gives the bouquet to her. "I... was wondering, if you could close your shop a bit early today so I could...get to know you better, using more than just the language of flowers, perhaps over dinner?" I suck at flirting, go think about better words yourself *cries shamefully*
Yknow what I like the idea where Mantis could recognize flowers that she grew herself personally and so ofc she noticed the flowers in the bouquet are the flowers that Loki bought every day from her. Maybe there's a lil bit of Loki's magic too so he could keep the flowers fresh and alive for that long. She was so touched by it she accidentally used her power to read his mind. He looks calm and confident on the outside, but his mind is filled with worry, fear that she might reject him, and before he could take back his words, Mantis excitedly said yes
And they went on their cute lil date yaaay ☺️☺️☺️
