Gina, i have been thinking about this. If Camille and harry were a stunt why did he do such heavy pr? Why did he have to write- "does he take you walking around his parents gallery" this is such a direct reference. He could have gone without including her so explicitly in his songs. Also he took her name directly in so many interviews too, that written interview in which he apparently broke down on seeing some sandals? Like all these things really gave an impression of him being a really heartbroken ex.
Well yes. Giving you the impression of a brokenhearted ex is what it was meant to do. The entire album was centered around falling in love, losing love, discovering oneself (IMO, because that’s what happened between Harry and Louis during the period he wrote the album).
Cherry was positioned to be a stunt song (with that specific lyric, with Zane Lowe directly asking him who the voice was at the end of the song, etc) Falling was positioned to be a stunt song (with the beechwood cafe lyric echoed in an interview with her where she mentions going there, with the allusions to France in the music video, etc). The whole album was positioned that way (tons of articles referencing her, the pineapple on the back of the album, the idiotic comment about the slippers, etc.)
I think the love and heartbreak is all very real. But directly speaking about who songs are about is the opposite of how he says he wants his music to be received. Beyond all of this, if you look at the timeline of their relationship, and the way the two of them behaved during it, it’s just obvious it was PR.
At the end of the day, what difference does it make? None of it makes any sense to me and watching it in real time didn’t make it any more real. But if you want to believe he actually dated her, go ahead.
