Denmark: Train Journey Begins
Yesterday was a travelling and resting day, so we started our official journey in Denmark from the train ride from Odense to Helsingoer. In this city north of Copenhagen lies the Kronborg Castle, where Hamlet was based in. When I walked in, I was greeted by staff dressed in medieval costumes, and learned that in celebration of Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, Hamlet would be playing live throughout the castle. Already gorgeous, the castle was brought alive by the actors and actresses who created scenes of Hamlet right in front of us as we walked through the castle. Imagine watching Hamlet duel two feet away from you! After taking countless photos and recording a 10-minute scene that nearly killed my camera’s battery, we headed out to a small neighborhood right by the train station, where we got more pictures of the beautiful Danish architecture, and ate dessert at a cute Danish bakery. We got off at Osterport station before going home because we had some time to stop by another must-see sight of Denmark, the Little Mermaid Statue. Though the statue was only a 15-minute walk from the train station, it took us forever to get there because our feet hurt like crazy and every step we took was painful. Though dealing with the summer heat and fighting for a photo spot with a bunch of other tourists were unpleasant, we finally got decent photos with the statue to prove that we’ve been to this country. After a long day of almost drowning in my own sweat, we headed back to the train station with a combination of failed attempt to bike and painful walks to the bus stop, then eventually hopped on the train from Copenhagen back to Odense.
