Hamukatsu senbei. The illustration is a reference to the Western-style influence from Meiji period - ham katsu is a famous yoshoku dish. Initially I found it weird as a concept because - well, it's a fried cracker of fried ham... but it's really yummy.
Accidental fangirling about Tamura’s stories (because i reread Basara and drowned in feelings). Honestly, guys, if you want to read something great with lots of adventures, action and apocalypse, friendship&found families goals, good romance and psychological things, try her works **
1 - Basara has TONS of what I call Great Tamura’s Irony, because it seems she just can’t draw a story without adding really ironic twists - I suppose, sometimes without any intention. The most remarkable part of this phenomen in Basara is probaby one of the main plot lines: the main characters who are the ambitious ruler of the region where everything starts and the leader of rebellion against him meet accidentally and fall in love without knowing each other’s true identities. So, you can never be sure if someone who said he's a dumplings seller/a cute girl with a little owl you met at a hot spring isn't your mortal enemy.
2 - We have a theory that all Tamura's works take place in the same universe, so i decided to draw her journalists: Taro from Basara and hamsters from Neko Mix Genkitan Toraji. Yes, hamsters publish a newspaper (you can get subscribed) and represent resistence. They are also often mistaken for mice (which are evil in Neko Mix), and now the best part - the names of those two who travel with the main gang are Hamukatsu and Hamlet-senpai. Yes. Hamlet. Senpai. It seems later in the story we will see their printing house and I’m looking forward to it :’D
Promotional Hamukatsu (ham katsu) potato chips - I guess this special edition was released to celebrate the 2016 Japanese Baseball League victory of Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
Several ham katsu products were on the featured supermarket aisles during the finals season ("katsu" can mean "win"). Carp-themed products were also on the spotlight due to Hiroshima Toyo Carps (this collaboration event, for example!).
