Hamza was leaning against the pillar outside the Baloch haveli, smoking a cigarette, enjoying the rain as it poured harshly. He heard his name being called by his best friend aka Uzair Baloch, the taller man seemed to be in a hurry as he ran out of the house.
“Chal chal chal!” Uzair motioned Hamza to follow and the long haired man did, the two of them got into the car hurriedly to avoid getting wet from the rain.
“Ja kahan rahe hain?” Hamza asked curiously as the younger Baloch started driving.
“Airport.” Uzair replied focusing on the road, “Saba ki behen aa rahi hai, Islamabad se.”
“Tune kabhi bataya nahi teri saali bhi hai?” Hamza said leaning in his seat.
“Tune pucha hi kab?” Uzair retorted, followed by a snort.
The duo arrived at the Karachi airport on time, and waited for Y/n to come out—Hamza was casually watching the stream of people pass by, making light conversation and occasionally glancing toward the exit, eager to see what Uzair’s sister in law looked like. A few minutes later Uzair straightened up, a smile appeared on his face as an unfamiliar woman started walking towards them. Hamza’s gaze paused on her, he had never seen anything so perfect ever before. As she came closer, he noticed the gentle fullness of her cheeks and the softness in her eyes; her features warm and striking in a way that made her beauty feel effortless and impossible to look away from.
The girl stopped in front of them and greeted Uzair excitedly, which he reciprocated with the same excitement. Then his best friend introduced her to him, “Hamza ye humari saali sahiba hain, Y/n. Aur Y/n ye Hamza hai, naya hai gang me!” The two greeted each with salam and soft smiles, Hamza’s heart rated increased when she smiled at him. Like the gentleman Hamza is, he reached for her suitcase, “arey nahi Hamza bhai ap zehmat na karein.”
CRACK! That was the sound of Hamza’s heart breaking into a thousand pieces, the sound was so loud his soulmate standing a feet away heard it. “Tune kuch awaz suni?” Uzair asked, looking around to see what fell and broke.
“Tera wehem hai.” Hamza muttered, taking the suitcase from her and placing it in the car.
“Shukriya.” She smiled making the man, strong enough take down armies, feel dizzy. Hamza opened the car door for her and Uzair started driving as the three of them settled inside the car. “Uzair bhai ye apke sheher me itni barish kyu hoti hai?” She pouted from the backseat.
“Kyu bhayi, tumhe to bohot pasand thi barish, ab kya ho gaya?” Uzair asked glancing at her in the rearview mirror. Hamza made a mental note to remember she liked the rain.
“Ab bhi pasand hai, par wo apki biwi hai na, bheegne nahi deti, aur aap thehre joru ke gulam, to aap bhi to gadi nahi rokne wale.” Hamza snorted at her comment earning a glare from the younger Baloch.
“Ab dekho beta ye joru ka gulam tumhari shikayat karega tumhari behen se!” Uzair mock threatened.
They soon arrived at the Haveli, Y/n ran out of the car and ran into her sister’s arms who was waiting eagerly. She then hugged Ulfat tightly, greeting her too. Hamza walked in dragging her suitcase inside followed by Uzair complaining about Y/n to Saba, to which Y/n added teasingly, “ye dekho sasural walo se kitni dikkat hai inko, ek ghante me chugliyan shuru.”
“Jaan bujh ke karte ho na tum dono!” Saba whined glaring at her sister and husband, who both high-fived each other. Hamza was standing at the back, admiring the family dynamics or rather the guest who had stolen his heart within a minute.
Over the next few days Hamza was found at the haveli more than often, lingering around Y/n.
Hamza heard Y/n raving about rabdi jalebi in the afternoon? It’s on the snack table in the evening. His excuse? “Main bas halwai ke pass se guzar raha tha.”
Hamza found out Y/n doesn’t have a formal dress for the evening dawat, he showed up at her bedroom with a shopping bag, his lie? “bhabhi ne bheja hai.”
Hamza heard Y/n wants to go to the mela with Faizal and Naieem? He’s offering to chaperone. “Aaj Rehman bhai ne bola chutti le loon.”
Hamza was obvious enough that the whole family noticed. Even after his umpteenth attempts to woo her, she remained oblivious. One evening, Uzair and Hamza were in Rehman’s office at the factory having a drink when Rehman started speaking, “Uzair mujhe lagta hai Hamza tera saadu banna chahta hai.” The comment made Hamza inhale sharply while the liquid was still in his mouth, making him snort it out of his nose. The other two men laughed at his misery. He wiped his face with the back of his hand.
“Bhai aisa kuch-”
“Hamzeyyy mere bhai, agar aise try karega to budhape tak safal nahi hoga. Meri saali bohot sada hai, agar sidhe nahi bolega to kabhi nahi samjh paegi aur tujhe Hamza bhai bol bol ke apne baccho ka mamu bana degi.” Uzair explained finishing his drink.
Meanwhile, Saba and Ulfat cornered Y/n in the living room, in the guise of girl talk. “Aur Y/n, tumhari life me koi hai?” Ulfat asked directly. Y/n shook her head. “Hamza kaisa lagta hai tumhe?” The girl choked on her lemonade.
“Hamza bhai kahan se agaye?” She asked looking at her sister.
“Tauba hai Y/n! Bechare ko bhai ko kehna band karo, jab tum bhai kehti ho rone jaisi shakal hojati hai masoom ki.” Saba said shaking her head.
“Wo kyun royengy bhayii?” She asked looking at her sister.
“Kyu ke wo tumhe pasand karta hai jhalli!” Her sister flicked her forehead making her rub the skin with a pout.
“Faltu ki batein, wo kyu mujhe pasand karenge?”
“Wo jo Saturday ki dawat mein tum mujhe dher dher thank you bolrhi thi na dress ka? Wo maine nahi bheja tha.” Saba said.
“Maine bhi nahi.” Ulfat added.
“Toh Uzair bhai laaye hongy.” Y/n shrugged it off.
“Bhabhi main iska gala daba doon? Kisi ko pata nahi chalega!” Saba turned to her sister in law, Ulfat laughed out loud.
“Hamza ko pata chal jaega aur phir wo aur dukhi hojaega.” Ulfat calmed Saba, although still chucking. She then turned to Y/n, “Hamza tumhe pasand karta hai, wo dress bhi wo hi laya tha, dekha nahi kaise tumhare aagy piche ghumta rehta hai.” Y/n remained silent, contemplating their words, as much as wanted to believe it, she couldn’t. She never shared it with her sister but she felt insecure about her body, she didn’t think anyone could like her, let alone someone like Hamza, who had a built of a Greek god. She shook her head, got up and retreated to her room, leaving the two women confused.
Later that night, rain pelted against her window, the loud noise calming her nerves, although her heart kept racing at the thought of Hamza liking her. She replayed the moments with him, ever since she’d come here, he’d been a literal sweetheart to her. She laid in her bed, staring the ceiling when she heard her phone chime. She wondered who could be texting her at this hour, rolling over she grabbed the device from the nightstand. It was a message from an unknown number. The text read, “terrace py aao.”
Her mind drifted off to Hamza, wishing it was him. But she didn’t want to get her hopes up in case it wasn’t him. She got out of bed and ran up the stairs. She opened the terrace door to see Hamza standing in the rain, his hair and beard dampened, his pathani thoroughly soaked and clinging to his body like a second skin.
“Hamza,” she didn’t call him bhai this time, “ye aap kya kar rahe hain baarish me?” She called out but he motioned her to come closer and she did. He stood there for a few seconds, letting the rain soak the two of them, then he raised his hand to caress her cheek gently.
“Soch raha hoon baarish me bhigte hue ye baat kahoon to zyada asar karegi.” He said remembering she loved rain. “Y/n, main jaanta hoon ye sunne me bohot ajib lagega par tum mujhe bohot acchi lagti ho, jabse tumhe airport py dekha tabse bas tumhara deewana ban gaya hoon.” He said cupping both her cheeks in his large palms.
“Hamza, main kyun?” The insecurity crept back in, she had denied Saba and Ulfat’s claims but she still couldn’t believe it even when he was saying it himself. “Aapko to koi bhi mil sakti hai, slim, smart-”
“Koi bhi nahi chahiye, tum chahiye. Aur ye kya slim, smart ki bakwas kar rahi ho?” He said leaning closer, “chu loon?” He asked his hand looming near her waist, she nodded biting her lip. He placed his hands on her waist, kneading the soft, supple curves. “Mujhe to ye softness pasand hai,” he whispered in he ear. “Tumhe nahi lagta ye ekdam perfect contrast hai? Tumhari soft body meri hard body ke against. It’s a dream.” She shivered clutching his kurta tightly. His words washing away all her insecurities.
“Hamza.” She breathed out his name like a prayer. He hummed grazing his beard against her cheek. “Bohot chalak hain aap.” She chuckled teasing him, he pulled away slightly to look at her face, he raised a brow, “baarish me romantic ho rahe hain kyuke aapko pata hai mujhe baarish pasand hai.”
“Hm chalak to mai hoon, tabhi toh Rehman bhai mujhe Uzair se zyada maante hai.” Hamza chuckled brushing his nose against her, pulling her impossibly closer to his body. “Toh haan ke haan?” He asked leaning in, lips inches away from hers.
“Haan.” One second she was speaking, the next his hand was at her jaw, firm, tilting her face up as his lips crashed into hers. The kiss wasn’t gentle, wasn’t careful. It was rough, demanding, like he’d been holding back too much for too long and finally snapped.
Her breath hitched against him as his grip tightened slightly, keeping her exactly where he wanted. His lips moved against hers with a kind of urgency that stole the air from her lungs—no hesitation, no softness, just heat and intensity.
“Hamza bhosdike!” The two of them pulled apart at the sound of Uzair’s voice, “dil ki baat batane ko bola tha tujhe!” He bellowed, Y/n and Hamza looked at each other with matching grins before Hamza jumped off to the other roof as Uzair chased him in the rain leaving a laughing y/n behind.
The next morning Y/n was at the breakfast table feeling a little embarrassed, Saba was smirking at her while Uzair was avoiding eye contact. She cleared her throat, “Uzair bhai aap itni raat ko chatt py kya kar rahe thy? Kahi meri behen ke piche kisi se phone calls to nahi karne gaye thy!?” She accused though it was laced with teasing. Hamza arrived at the very moment.
“Dekho dekho zara, khud pakdi gayi toh mujhpy malba ulat rahi hai.” Uzair gasped dramatically pointing his finger at Y/n earning chuckles from everyone at the table. “Aap toh aashiqi me itni busy thi ke aapka dhyan nahi tha kw terrace ka darwaza itne zor se baj raha tha hawa se, wohi band karne aya tha.” Uzair mock glared at her, “ab to ankhe band karne layak nahi bacha hoon.” He pouted, cringing as the image flashing behind his eyes. She narrowed her eyes at him before beckoning him closer, he leaned in to hear what she wanted to say.
“Aapki mehendi wale din apko yaad hai, ek chor aapi ke kamre ki khidki se abba ki car py gir gaya tha, aur Rehman bhai uski haddiyan kutto ko khilna chahte thy, yaad hai? Mujhe uss chor ka naam, address, phone number sab pata hai.” She whispered lowly and Uzair’s ear turned pink, clearing his throat he leaned back.
“Waise ab to bas shadi ki taiyari karni chaiye haina.” She smirked leaning back in her chair. Hamza was curious about what she’d said to make him switch like that. After breakfast he pulled her into the hallway away from the rest of them.
“Hamza, koi dekh lega.” She giggled trying to move away from him.
“Kal jo Uzair ne dekha usse zyada kya hi koi dekhega.” Hamza replied nuzzling her neck. She smiled at letting him hold her. “Waise Uzair ko kya bola jo wo teer ki tarah sidha ho gaya?”
“Arey ye jo apke bhole best friend hain na? Apni mehendi wali raat, aapi ke kamre me chale gaye unse milne, aur khidki se nikalne ke chakkar me abbu ki car py gir gaye, wo to maine inko bacha liya, Rehman bhai ko boldia shayad chor tha. Rehman bhai to uss chor ki haddiyan kutto ko khilana chahte thy ke unki hone wali bahu ke kamre me ghusa kaise.” She laughed reminiscing the incident.
“Bohot tezz hai meri jaan.” Hamza pecked her temple.
“Uff bas kardo tum dono.” Saba groaned as she rounded the hallway, “nikkah tak sabr karlo!” She said pulling Y/n and dragging her away from Hamza, he reached for her dramatically making Saba roll her eyes at their lovesick behaviour.
