CHRYSOCOLLA: a money-making headcanon

Teaching for the Academy pays alright money-wise, but up until nearly the end of his career as an active field shinobi Iruka mostly lived paycheck to paycheck. As a child the stipend given to orphaned shinobi was barely enough to cover expenses, and until he learned how to budget and get the best deals (a skill they don't teach in the Academy) he'd sometimes end up going hungry or being unable to afford new clothes or other things he needed.

His jonin-sensei was really big on training, and so his squad ended up going on fewer missions in favor of focusing on making chuunin. For his teammates who had families that was okay, but sometimes it meant he was barely scraping by. After making chuunin, Iruka had taken that training mentality to heart. He always made sure to take enough missions to actually be able to pay for all his expenses, a luxury he never had previously, but still sometimes came up on trouble whenever he was bedridden for more than a week.

IOLITE: my muse's drinking habits

Iruka likes to be in control of situations, so he rarely drinks enough to get truly drunk. I’d say he goes all-out maybe twice a year for special occasions or after something really personally traumatizing happens to him. For the most part, he has one or two drinks to be polite and fit in and then stops. It doesn’t matter how great of a shinobi you are if you’re too drunk to move effectively after all. 

UNAKITE: what my muse's ideal pet would be

He’s busy a lot of the times so he’ll probably tell you a cat is ideal for his lifestyle, but a medium-sized dog with a good temperament (because all of the children would want to meet and pet it incessantly) would be really good for him.

Each step closer to the tower added weight, heavy footfalls almost silent as he went up the stairs. It was late and most shinobi were out celebrating, rejoicing with each other and reuniting with families. One in particular, the one he sought, would be alone. Perhaps there might be company in the shape of a lifelong friend, but he doubted it.

Tsunade had always done things alone. It would be a surprise for this one to be any different.

If he were honest with himself, he knew it was because she would be alone that he made that visit. The first one he saw -- over the boy who saved the world and still held his heart, over the student of his pupil, over every other person in that village he would pay respects to -- she came first. She always had.

Several heartbeats passed by loudly as he stood in front of that large, closed door. So many times he’d walked through, not a care in the world. Three different Hokage to visit, to adore, to report to. But this instance...this was different from every time before.

Slowly, the door opened, a soft smile on his lips. She wouldn’t know and if he were lucky, he might not have to visit the hospital. Still, seeing her, hearing her, being with her--

“Paperwork again?” he asked. “I figured you’d be celebrating with everyone else.”

She doesn’t think she’s stopped tapping her foot since she’s entered the building.

The staff have been an odd mix of reassuring and hopelessly busy, so she largely escapes notice, which is mostly a blessing until she needs directions - the last time she was here she barely came up to her mentor’s shoulder, and she remembers the Sandaime as a kind and vaguely fatherly man with a wrinkled face and kind, if deeply pitying eyes.

She’s been sitting ramrod straight on the bench outside the huge double doors for  almost ten minutes, and the echoing silence of the open hall is beginning to make her heartbeat almost audible. The singular crow in her lap chirrups soothingly, rubbing his beak on the sleeve of her heavy sweater. She’s not sure the Hokage will approve, but if she can’t cling to something she’ll positively shake herself to pieces. (The whole of the Flock wanted to come, insisting that they were curious as if that would sway her, and complained mightily when they were denied.)

The door opens, and Jun feels her heart jump into her throat nervously. She stands, and goes to meet the newest Hokage.

Likely story, Kakashi. She would have believed him if it weren’t for the fact that he was still reading a worn-out first edition signed copy of Icha Icha Paradise. “You know, I think have some more documents for you to go through. Shizune, give him the file.”

A binder thicker than her arm is pulled out. Which is saying something; she’s got some killer guns.

         kakashi feels a headache bloom behind his right eye when the file gets pulled. he recognizes that file. it’s his own file. he wonders how many ‘misplaced’ or ‘illegible’ documents she’s going to make him go through before she tires of torturing him. hopefully not too many, he wanted to nap in the sun on the roof later.

         ‘ you know, i am no going to be your successor, no matter how much you try to browbeat and groom me. ’

Naruto pulls his jacket together and zips it up.

“Baa-chan it’s too cold in here, how the heck are ya needin’ a fan,” Naruto asks shoving his hands in his pockets. He looks about the room to see who would bleed. He sure as hell didn’t touch the fan, tempted as he was, he didn’t want to piss off the Hokage today. 

He needed a mission, to get himself out and about. Being at home with nothing to do is getting to him, making him restless. It makes him think. Too many thoughts. Thoughts he doesn’t want.

“Get me a good mission ‘ttebayo,” he demands when the fan gets turned back on.
