Martin’s fanfic rec #1
Handed out by EroEmo
We all know this places that we love to go when we want to forget about reality for a little while, in the case of Shuu in Handed out it’s a little book store that he just recently discovered.
These magical places make it easier to lose oneself in the reality another mind created, given the circumstance that there’s actually a book that’s appealing enough to read... or in Shuu’s case too many books to chose from.
Being lost in this endless sea of hard covers and pocket novella, a mysterious force helps the young man to find books that captivate him for the few delightful hours a day that he spends reading them.
Drawn back by curiosity and the strange feeling this encounters left, he becomes a regular customer of the book store, just to learn the secret behind his mysterious friend.
The story is a one shot with an ending that is open to the interpretation of the reader, it might not sound satisfying for the lover of longer series, but it’s most definitely worth reading.
Like a gentle ballad, the words carry the reader through the plot of the story with ease, no questions are left unanswered and the atmosphere around the character harmonises perfectly with the emotional state they find themselves in.
Not trying to take most of the story away for curious readers, it is a love story with an ending that might not be one that they expect, but one that suits this bitter sweet story perfectly.
It feels like the reader themself steps into the book store and are overcome with a feeling of nostalgia and agony, in a place they have never been before.
Compared to a song, Handed out left me with the same emotion Lee Hi’s Breathe did. Even though the story is not long, it’s beautifully composed and despite the lightness it has, it leaves a heavier feeling in the end, something that can’t be brushed off easily.
