I visited the Charles W Morgan a few weeks ago! The room with the birdcage was built on the deck, a little bit forward of the skylight. It was for a captain's wife who was having a really bad time with seasickness, and they thought that being up on deck would help with that. But she ended up leaving the ship at St Helena not very long afterwards.

Yesss! Thank you so much! All the little added elements on that ship that captains brought in to help their wives with seasickness…the gimbaled bed…that little room…MAN it makes me tender lol.

aaaaahhh,, it’s this au where leo is an author of erotica novels and ross is still an antarctic loving dude aka a researcher. and it’s my shameless excuse to write vague rp’ish smut where ross finds out that leo’s latest novel (about two navy officers stuck in the arctic together hmm-mmm indeed) has a character that’s basically just him and he has some thoughts indeed. it’s not rlly established relationships more friends and leo has a massive crush (it’s also the one au where leo owns an old sexy antarctic researchers calendar ft. ross in very little and very unsexy 90s clothing). 

it’s written so far in weird chunks of “dialogue i really want them to have” so have the beginning. 

the book launch had gone exceptionally well.

leo shouldn’t be stressed over book launches anymore, it was far from the first one he’d written, but this one had been his baby, the precious darling he failed to kill years ago when it refused to work out and he got stuck midway through the first draft.

several years, half a dozen novellas and a solid career later, the novel had gotten finished. and a week ago, it had published. he hadn’t been entire sure how well a novel about two navy officers stuck on a ship in the arctic would sell, but the answer seemed to better than he could’ve dreamed.

None of this justifies the contents of the small velvet box now sitting on his knee, as Henry drives them back from town in the coupe.

Among other things, James's ears aren't pierced.

7. HF I never expected to dislike as much as I do

  Literally every founding father. I don’t suppose I hate them since I don’t know that much about them, but the Hamilton fandom(and many Americans in general tbf) just glorifies some of them to the point of ridiculousness and fuels my spite against them whoops.

14. Favorite fictional depiction of an HF

I really enjoy Colin Firth as George V in The Kings Speech. Though I’ve not studied George V enough to say if it is an accurate depiction, it is a very emotive and enjoyable one.

the best way to catch an evil spirit, especially one that's very sure of its own power, is to pretend that you don't believe it can do something that will make it easy to trap or neutralize, as in "I don't believe you can fit your vast majesty into this tiny bottle!"
