Ever since the 3DS was announced , the constant thing i always see is something about Smartphone gaming vs Handheld console gaming , so this is my take on it.
First to start off , when i explain what the handheld i prefer , i don't hate the other in no way , so let's start off. Smartphone gaming is more based on short games , which you can get for 1 to 10 dollars normally , sometimes they are really simple but can get addicting.Take Angry Birds for example , it's such a simple game , just knock out the pigs by slinging your birds at them , nothing special , but why do we keep playing it?.These sort of games , you usually use while you want to break some time , for example , your going on a short trip for about 5-8 minutes , that's when you break out the iPhone or iTouch and play some Angry Birds or any other game that you like on there. But let's say your on a long trip for about maybe 2-4 hours. That's where Handheld console gaming comes to game , these types of games normally have more substance and are more complicated but can be just as addictive as a Smartphone game.So again , if your on a long trip you may whip out your DS or PSP , maybe you'll play The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks , a very long game that can break a lot of time or if you go on the PSP , maybe you'll take out Little Big Planet PSP and start creating a level. Now the reason i prefer handheld console gaming is because Smartphone games will never , EVER have the same quality as a DS or PSP game.Smartphones aren't meant for games , it's just a feature , that's why it's games don't have the same quality as a DS or PSP game , two handhelds dedicated to gaming.Plus the fact that you don't have real buttons , just digital buttons , is a terrible way to play your games , depending on the game you play.If a game requires you to use your finger , like for a slide , that's fine it's easy , but if a game requires you to use both your thumbs on a small screen , it's a terrible way because you'll be covering almost all the screen , unless if you're a kid or have small thumbs. While i don't hate Smartphone gaming , i really don't enjoy it as much as the DS or PSP , the Smartphone games aim for a more casual crowd , while the DS aims for all the types of game audiences , casual or hardcore.Plus it's just way too uncomfortable to play games with both thumb , without actually feeling buttons. I hope you agree with me on this , but if you don't , that's fine too.I'll be waiting for your responses. Thanks for reading.Have a nice day.
